Today we're venturing into a chilling hypothetical: what if Vesta, the largest asteroid in our solar system, set a collision course with Earth?

Big thanks to @MetaBallStudiosfor allowing us to use some of their amazing footage.

At 530 kilometers in diameter I don't think the angle really matters. At that size it would punch right through the crust at any angle. Even at a 45 degree angle the transient Crater would be around 500 kilometers deep.
The heat generated by this impact would created a massive amount of hot vaporized rock vapor. This would spread across the planet and wipe out life on earth, and boil away the oceans, completely.

Totally underestimated every effect. Especially from a direct hit. All surface life eliminated. Sterilized.

This is EXACTLY what this world needs!

That kind of hit means game over for life on Earth for thousands years if not millions

3:14 "disrupt photosynthesis"
Like it would matter as this point

this video really seems to drastically understate the devastation.
the entire surface of the Earth would be destroyed, all life completely obliterated. the crater would be thousands of kilometres in size, not hundreds.

If every solar system has an asteroid belt, the best space weapon could be a giant sling shot that just throws rocks at planets.

Btw we know for sure that we won't be able to survive because the impact of the asteriod is on Italy...
I'm italian btw ... so that's the reason why I know that for sure

There's always a depressing part to these videos when you mention how bright some objects are in the sky. It might be bright but my light pollution's brighter.

Just start filming it, guys. Remember, the cameraman never dies.

I would like to see a video on what this would do to Jupiter, our pseudo-guardian planet, if it were to collide there.

But, remember this will never happen. Vesta orbits safely away from Earth, so it doesn't cross paths with Earth.

3:09 what you are describing is an impact winter not a nuclear winter and is different as it lacks radiation and is caused by a large impact not nuclear weapons

Something about that close-up shot, at just the time you were saying there had been volcanic activity, makes me wonder if Vesta is an asteroid at all. Maybe it was something else entirely. The questions of what & what happened & why... Now, there's a lifetime of study, and then some!

3:01 this is footage of what would happen if the moon got too close to earth. This isn’t even an impact, it’s just moons effect on earth being so close

I’ve been aware of vesta for 20 years. My father started building a very strong shelter which I have finished so we are ready

I suppose you are meaning that Vesta is the largest asteroid while counting Ceres as a dwarf planet right?
Ceres is so big its own gravity rounded itself and is considered a dwarf planet/biggest asteroid.
