I made a project like this with a HeNe laser about 20 years ago. (Wow that sounds weird to say!) I strongly suggest that you fix the pointer and separate and fix the servos and have each one of them hold a mirror. Then you can move much faster with less stress on the motors. I wanted more performance than I could get with motors so I moved to speaker coils. Hard Drive motors would be a good option now days.

Thanks! Yes, there are way better ways of doing this kind of control for lasers.

I just find something fascinating about being able to buy two servos for $5, hold them together with an elastic band, and get X/Y motion out of them - even if it's not very fast or accurate!
