You didn't mention the reason he hated it was because it restricted his breathing. The comic accurate animatronic mask constricted Dafoe's head so much he couldn't wear it for more than 5 minutes. The one in the movie pressed up against his face so much he had difficulty breathing.

Hollywood always makes masks and costumes so uncomfortable or impossible to breath or use the bathroom while some random at Comic Con can make a better quality looking mask or costume that works much better and more functional

I was scared in the No Way Home trailer, when he broke the mask. I thought it was disrespectful to the original movies. But it actually makes perfect sense in the confines of the story, and especially when you learn that Dafoe always hated the mask

We need the mask, he's really terrifying. I'm literally scared at him watching nwh years ago.

Willem DaFoe is one of the finest actors alive today. He has a magnetism and screen charisma like Christopher Walken. If the two of them were in a film together playing cousins or old friends the screen would probably explode!

considering how the plot went he doesnt even need the costume change, the hotel fight scene was basically in civilian, and at the final fight he crashes his glider anyways so he didn't even have the new look for a minute.

Dafoe was the best part about that movie. It is refreshing to see a truly great acting performance in the MCU which is so often plagued by subpar performances

He doesn't need the mask. He's one of the few actors who's face is expressive enough thay he doesn't need any mask and his design overall in MWH was a huge improvement.
