Asian parents are not racist at all but sometime their wordings bc they so honest n straight forward that look like they do but if you don’t take it to heart and get to know them prob the nicest peoples whom so respectful toward you and nice to you more than anyone you ever meet . Hey, Michael, I love your contents.

I just want to point one thing out. From your gigs, I saw how your mother's name is pronounced Gum or Come in English. As a Korean, I just want to say that Korean names usually don't stress certain syllable like some other Asian names do. I presume out of your mother's full given name, they took one syllable and just romanized in a simple way which ends up sounding completely different from her real name. I guess one of her given names was 금 in Korean which is pronounced with G from great and mm from when you say hmm and those put together and spoken lightly. Nowadays, many Koreans spell it Geum in English.

Also the name Yo, Korea does not have last name Yo. I think it's 여, pronounced with yea part in yearning.

It would be fantastic for you to ask your mother how to correctly pronounce her name in Korean. I guess her not being proficient in English and being a minority at the time of her moving, she wasn't in a position to correct everyone pronouncing her name wrong and just had to accept with it without any choice on her own - which ended up getting stuck with it for decades.

Moving overseas is very hard for anyone at any age. Moving overseas being a racial/cultural minority, not speaking the language, being stripped away from familiar food, culture, family and friends, it's an extremely difficult situation one can face in life. Kudos to your mother's perseverance and strength. She's a strong woman!
