Things Only Adults Notice In Sky High

Sky High came out in 2005, a few years before The Dark Knight and Iron Man would change the face of superhero movies forever. The film is set in a high school for superheroes, where the kids have to come into their own and learn to use their powers. It’s undeniably a kids’ film, but there are all kinds of moments that the adults in the audience will enjoy as well. The cast is stacked with enjoyable supporting actors, from Kurt Russell to Lynda Carter, and there are some jokes the kids won’t get. Let’s take a look at some things only adults notice in Sky High.

Yes, Lyla was a pacifist, but that wasn't the reason she didn't used her powers at school. She was very powerful, but was against the hero/sidekick system, so she preferred to be treated as a sidekick than be the beneficiary of an unjust chaste system. At home she always used her powers.
Is like don't reveal that your Dad is a billionaire when you know that poor kids are alienated at school.

I love the bit where the Commander gets upset his son is a sidekick, grabs a wireless phone, crushes it because he's upset, then reaches into a drawer filled with replacements.

I grew up watching Wonder Woman. Was one of my favorite shows. I cracked up when I first saw Sky High and heard Principal Powers say " I can't help you now. I'm not Wonder Woman you know"
That was clever putting that in like that.

And the most profound thing about Gwen's secret weapon is that it's basically an immortality ray. Just rejuvenate yourself every few decades and have eternal youth.

I feel like when gwen said "I've went to puberty twice for this" was all about her being turned as a baby one time to hide the fact that she was still alive and was planning to get some revenge to the heroes

I thought Ron Wilson's transforming into a super after falling into a vat of toxic waste was a nod to Toxic Crusader.

Layla’s powers regarding the plants seem to be related to her emotional state. Causing flowers to bloom or bear fruit when she was with the boy she loved, flowers to wilt when she thought he forgot their date, and vines to fight back when the bad girl punched her. Maybe the plants were more her “friends” that she communicated with? After all, her mother had the power to talk to animals....maybe the surprising thing is that her mother let her HAVE any leather goods..

Right after Josie Stronghold gets blasted back into a child, Mr. Boy catches her and attempts to proclaim his love for her before he too gets zapped into infancy.

The fact that bullying happened at this school, and the teachers not only did nothing about it, but EXCUSED IF I were a Super Hero, my kids wouldn't step FOOT in a Super Hero school that promotes Villainy.

Layla's leather bag was probably found in a thrift store. Also, the instances of her using her powers... with the apple, she was trying to cheer up her crush, so in her teenage mind, that was a worthy situation, and with the flower... I think she couldn't control it, as her powers seem to be in sync with her emotions.

This was a good movie. It’s hard to qualify why but every now and then one of these types of movies just has a certain charm or chemistry where it has staying power even as we get older. Can still hear Bruce Campbell yelling Great supporting cast.

When I watched this, I thought they kept calling him “War and Peace” thinking it was his “hero/villain name.” It took me awhile to realize they were saying Warren Peace
