Insurance losses $40 Billion, just imagine if they actually counted total Economic Losses like Uninsured losses and Productivity losses. Ian has to be a $100 Billion Event.

Insurance is a contingency that has been debated tirelessly because the cheap frugal people feel it’s a waste of money, but it saves one from a lifetime of feeling stupid for when one really needs it and it’s there.

With insurance compa ira having to sell investments to pay the claims, it means more market downside, both stocks and bonds (unless the Fed starts buying again soon )

If you live in Florida near water and you don't have flood insurance shame on you. That is your fault and you should not be bailed out. I live in Louisiana near water and pay for flood insurance. It should be mandatory.

Only in American news would you read a headline such as this. "Could be too much for insurance companies"? Phuck em, people who have them paid money for the cover, can't now be worried on their behalf that they might end up shutting down cause of the size of claims being made.

Reinsurance is a complete scam. Essentially home owners will be send claims to some island in the Caribbean and will never see a dime.
