LYRICS:
You told me I was 18 going on 35
You made me feel like the smartest human alive
I thought I was clever but, were you clever..er
You said you never fell in love like you did with me
You paid for all the hotels
I paid for fake ID’s
To spend the last 10 years
Tryna piece it together

I went to therapy
Religiously
I never sleep
I made my brother promise me he’d let you live
and I guess I could forgive...
But I choose violence
I choose war
For all the little girls
That should be warned

I could choose silence
But what for
You took my innocence
Now I’ll take yours
So I choose violence
And I might die trying

Now you’re prolly her world
And she won’t understand
That all you need is a girl
To feel like a man
Tell your friends she’s a friend
At your hometown dive
But when you were 13
She wasn’t alive
and by the time you were 18
Well, that girl was 5
You had a teaching degree
While she was learning how to drive
And you’ll make her feel safe
Like you made me feel safe
Like oh my god you’re so mature for your age
Except she’s not your age so

So I choose violence
I choose war
For all the little girls
That should be warned

I could choose silence
But what for
You took my innocence
Now I’ll take yours

And you’ll choose hiding
At 44
In your mothers house
And she’ll guard the door
But I’ll choose anger
I’ll choose rage
When I build an army
Of girls half your age
We’ll all choose violence
We’ll all choose war
And every little girl

Will be warned

We won’t choose silence
Not anymore
You took our innocence
Now we’ll take yours
So I choose violence
And I maybe I’ll die trying

I was abused by a professor. It destroyed me. I tried to report it but it took me too long to be strong enough and title 9 statue of limitations ran out. He will never face any consequences for the abuse, trafficking and fraud. He is rewarded. I am discredited. I have raged and cried so many tears. Thank yoi for this important song.

I love that there is nothing more than Jax looking right AT YOU while she tells you her story. The message is more important than the entertainment at the moment. masterfully done.

Thank you for choosing violence. This hits deeply, and I fight for my kids like no one ever fought for me. Little boys need warned too.

"Oh my god, you're so mature for your age, " will forever be branded in my memories from hearing it so often in my childhood.

From a brother that had to make that promise, this teared me up.

The lyrics... the song... Jax... as a male survivor of childhood sexual abuse by an authority figure... married to a woman survivor... we would choose violence before this comes to our children or granddaughters. Thank you for creating this art to resonate.

Thank you Jax, for building an army of girls who are aware and can choose self love, self compassion and wisdom as their weapons of war. ❤️

I was 16 he was 25. He wanted a cute, dumb thing he could raise into his dream girl. I was isolated from friends and family, verbally and mentally abused and had a baby before I turned 17. Five years later he graduated to physical abuse. I made it out broken bones, heart and mind. Don't let your baby girls make the same mistake that I did.

I love that you took the trending question of "which woul you feel safer in the woods with a bear or strange man"
And used it for this song.

How is this girl not a Grammy-winning superstar? Incredible songs every time.

I was 14, he was 43, married and a father. Two years of emotional and physical abuse. His wife, a mother figure to me, blamed me for what happened and still lives with him.
Most of the time I can't be angry or sad. But your anger helps me Jax! Thank you for making me alive in places where I was buried.

I don't think I have ever commented on a video in all my years using YouTube, but this song hit me so hard, as a brother that had to make that very same promise. Choose that violence and know that the brothers out there making those promises support not just our own sisters, but each and every one of you. Thank you for making this song.

I'm 53 & never so angry than realizing my children, my daughters and sons have to still fight this fight to JUST LIVE WITHOUT BEING VIOLATED & PREYED UPON. But, I'm so PROUD of the voices that speak so loudly now. That express rage with their whole being. I support the alarms that sound and dream of a day when it becomes the norm to NOT have to fight to not be a victim.

Choosing the bear really is choosing violence. Brilliant!
And, as usual, Jax remains Queen of timeless classics that really say something.

I can think of a dozen films where this would have been the perfect song for the soundtrack. Wouldn't surprise me that that's where this tune ends up. Love it!

Not only is this song such a raw and heartbreaking anthem for what far too many young people are forced to experience, but it's also a smack-you-in-the-face testament to Jax's vocal abilities, for those who weren't already aware. The combo in this song is literally spine-tingling. BEAUTIFULLY DONE, Jax!! (I started listening to you because you have the same nickname as me - forever grateful that I've been a fan for years now ❤ I'm so proud of you and the fact that you're finally getting the recognition you deserve makes me so happy!)

Thank you, Jax. I'm sorry you went through this. This pushed buttons and sparked the anger I've had too. The bear was a masterful touch and powerful.
