I love this because it just demonstrates how smart barracuda can actually be. Normally this fish would either avoid or be territorial with divers, but it KNEW that the divers were there to catch lionfish. Ergo, rather than attack or swim away it just kinda hung around the divers and waited for them to find prey for it to eat. Without even realizing it, we actually created a symbiotic relation with an aquatic species. The barracuda find an easier meal, and the humans are able to properly dispose of an invasive species while giving back to the food chain.

I lived and worked in the bahamas for years. We had a Barracuda thet would follow us for miles. Charile. Charlie was no less than 6 feet long. Bad ass fish.

Bruh, this barracuda 100% knows what he’s doing hanging around these divers.

Barracuda have always scared me in my dives. Mostly because of their curiosity, fearlessness, and that beautiful mug full of sharp teeth. I've happily swam with sharks before but always feel uneasy around barracuda

No clickbait title, full lead up and aftermath, no music overlay, stable footage with the subject in clear view...

Congratulations and thanks my friend.

Lion fish: I have no natural predators.

Barracuda: And I took that personally.

If you look carefully, you can tell this Barracuda was just waiting for the divers to catch something, clearly this fish knows where it can get easy food.

It’s literally following them around like a dog looking for food scraps.

For those who wonder WHY the Barracuda seems to be waiting for something and not at all threatened by the diver it's becoz these divers were purposedly spearing these Lionfishes since they are considered pest in these waters and been feeding them off directly to any predator who seems to be willing to munch on em like Sharks and Barracudas! It's a two way relationship.. the divers get paid for removing these pest.. and the Predators gets free lunch!

When I was 11 I was on holiday snorkelling about 30 meters away from my uncle quite far out from the beach and I was just looking around and I turned and RIGHT in front of me was a massive barracuda with one of the biggest eyes I’ve ever seen staring into my bloody soul. It was honestly one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever experienced, especially because I actually knew what it was and I knew what it’s teeth looked like lol. I don’t think I have ever swam so fast in my life.

This is so interesting to me, because I fished for Barracuda when I was younger and I always associated their behavior with blind aggression, attacking everything that moves. So it's crazy to see one behaving intelligently, chilling with the divers waiting to be fed a Lionfish.

Thank you for sharing, great video. That barracuda has quickly learned that divers will not hurt it and divers with poles get food. Very intelligent.
