Sixth grader credited with scientific breakthrough on lionfish

For a school science fair project, a Florida sixth grader studied lionfish and is now being credited with a scientific breakthrough. The research has changed the way these deadly fish are handled. Vicente Arenas reports.

Behind her success there’s a great adviser, her father. He’s not just a marine biologist but also a great educator.

The most important part of science is asking the right questions. She managed to ask a question no one else had thought to ask. Curiosity is vital for innovation to happen.

The fact that she was able to study a live animal at all is shocking. When I was in middle school that wasn’t allowed, and in high school you had to go through all kinds of paperwork and approvals, so no one ever wanted to involve living creatures of any kind. She’s going far in life!
