I was going to send this vid to my students but the terms you use are way off. Shutter speeds aren't higher and lower, they're faster and slower. Apertures aren't higher or lower, they're larger or smaller. (BTW- it's similar to your pupil, not your iris. Iris size doesn't change). Raising the ISO doesn't let in more light, it makes the camera more light sensitive- like OG film ASA. Grain is not the same as noise. Sometimes similar visually, but very different technically. New camera users- especially those considering going pro, need to know the right terms and how a camera works.

This was an awesome recap of the exposure triangle. Love the simplicity, love the example, and it was under 10 minutes!?👏! 10/10 Sir! Also, that transition to your promo on with Square Space was smoothly done 👍.

Great video for beginners! Just the right amount of detail to help them understand but not overwhelm them. Will be showing this to a friend looking to get into photography.

Hey @John Branch IV Photography, just wanted to extend a thank you to you for your helpful content. I recently helped a family member out with some fall pics that I wasn't too fond of. My focus was off on most pics, but to be fair, we were working with some harsh natural lighting, and hyper kids running around lol. I'm studying more on Exposure, AF modes, and Metering Modes within my cameras settings to better understand how to properly expose my shots, and your videos have been very helpful. From the get, I've always shot in Manual mode. Currently, I'm working with an entry level Canon Rebel DSLR, kit lens, nifty 50mm, and a wide angle lens to learn the basics before dumping money into a proper mirrorless setup.

So as an eg say I’m taking a studio portrait with the flash on and the subject is staying still would that then be anything above 1 / 125 and anything above F7 for a sharp still image and then I can have ISO at 100 because of studio flash. Is it that way of thinking?

i´m So happy to have a Sony A7s.... Okay.. it´s still Mark one, but the Lowlight-performance is extraordinaire! i can set it to ISO 50´000 by an´ aperture of f1, 8 and nothing.. and i say NOTHING is grainy! Guaranteed! Okay... 12 Megapixels may is not enough for some wedding photographer. But honestly: The resolution is high enough ;-)
