Today’s video is about growing lettuce with led grow lights and mastering artificial light for lettuce production. If you’re interested in managing artificial lighting or LED grow lights for lettuce production, this video is for you. M.S. Karla Garcia from Hort Americas Technical Service talks about all that you need to know about using artificial lighting for lettuce production in the greenhouse or in a vertical farm, including DLI and nutrition.

So, we'll try to give some extremely useful information regarding growing lettuce under artificial lighting as quickly as possible. When employing artificial lighting in lettuce production, there are a few things to keep in mind. Indoor systems, such as greenhouse production and vertical farming in plant factories, can benefit from artificial lighting. It's critical to recognize that these two systems are distinct and offer our plants with various conditions. As a result, the way light is managed will be different.

Why would you want to use artificial lighting in greenhouses where there is already enough of natural light? There are two major reasons for this. The first is the issue of quality. Artificial lighting, which will supply the proper spectrum and consistent light to increase quality on your product, is one technique to ensure a perfect color texture and even nutrient content in the leafy greens business, which is getting more and more competitive every day. The second reason is that we need to control the temperature within our greenhouse. Several studies have shown that employing artificial lighting during hot weather can help you save money on cooling by reducing solar radiation and heat inside the greenhouse with shaking loads while ensuring optimum development with artificial supplemental lighting.

Lettuce grows exceptionally well in the presence of LED lights. LED lighting is an effective, productive, and energy-efficient technique for increasing productivity consistently. Furthermore, crops ranging from broccoli to blueberries have been proven to control nutrients and flavor by adjusting light intensity and wave length. The lumen output (intensity) of the light to lettuce can be varied using LED grow lights for lettuce. Cultivation stages fluctuate depending on the type of plant being grown. The needs of lettuce germination and vegetative periods will be met by LED grow lights for lettuce, which will irradiate the specified range light of the spectrum.

Hello, currently I have only T8 light tubes with PPFD 130 umol/m2/s. Just want to ask, if I put the lights side by side, will it help to achieve PPFD > 250 umol/m2/s, so that I can achieve at least a 14.4 DLI in 16 hours? Thank you.
