1/4 as a Decimal

To write 1/4 as a decimal form we need to divide 1 by 4. We know that since 1 is smaller than 4 we are going to end up with a number less than 1.

We can divide 1/4 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 1 by 4, we get 0.25.

So: 1/4 = 0.25
0.25 is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable. You could also multiply your answer by the denominator and you should get the numerator. In this case 0.25 x 4 = 1.

Note that 1/4 and 0.25 represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 1/4 is a fraction and 0.25 is in decimal form.

1/4 can be 25/100 and 25 is 25%of100??
