In this video, we cover the basics of warehouse use in Railway Empire 2. This is a major change from the way warehouses worked in the original Railway Empire and dramatically changes how the game is played.

This video is a revelation to me! I've been shipping goods like you would have to in the first game and not really understanding warehouses. Thanks!

Hey man. Thanks for all your great videos. I watched a lot of them when I was playing RE1 a year ago. And started watching RE2 ones now that I'm playing it. Learned a lot from those tutorials, thanks for your time and dedication.

Having just bought the game a week ago I decided to learn as best I could using videos from people playing the game.
I tried a number of other uploaders, but have found your way of explaining what is going on to be the best for me.
You are just so clear in what is going on in this series of 9 on the "Fundamentals" of each subject to be so easy for my slow brain to follow.
So thanks so much.

Since we are talking about warehouses here I want to bring up warehouse transfers. I noticed that you can bring goods into one warehouse in a town and those same goods can leave from another warehouse. For example:

Lumber -> Grand Rapids Station 1
Grand Rapids Station 2 -> Toledo

If Grand Rapids Station 1 and Grand Rapids Station 2 both contain warehouses set for lumber, then the lumber will flow into Station 1 and out of Station 2. This only works if both stations have warehouses set to lumber (and both warehouses are connected to the same city).

After watching videos of people explaining this sounding just as confused as I am asking "wait...why is it doing that?", I almost gave up. Then I found this. Now I believe I can make sense of warehouses now and realized the mistakes I was making. Appreciate you man thanks!

Another thing that's different from RE1 is how the warehouses fill up. You don't just get stuff added in to your warehouse. When it leaves the lumber yard, it already has a target city, so the warehouses are only used as a temp storage between the trains moving them. This means that congestion on tracks will seriously impact moving goods through warehouses and we have to make sure that there's enough trains to handle all goods

I've been running a new setup where I use warehouses outside of town, at a farm, preferably where there are 2 goods to pick up. Then I run point to point to each different town, bringing back the goods made by the town, running all of my goods this way, and in town running express lines with the restaurant and post office making huge profits on the express goods with minimal lines between cities. The third campaign has forced me to work them this way, and it seems to work very well. Just add trains to each line as the cities grow and since they're the only trains on their lines, never any backup. Three stations per city allows you to get all goods this way from 3 different warehouses, setup at the station where the city gets their dedicated goods for production already. Just add a secondary line running the primary good if needed to keep up with demand. I've even been running the Jan Jansens, as you always called them, to help run single line track when money is tight in the beginning. I'm really digging this game. Oh, and i almost forgot. Always set your goods in the freight lines to not return to the warehouse with the goods it left with. That seems to be an issue sometimes.

Heh! SHOULD have called this episode: Stations can be placed ANYWHERE! Since that has the ramification of replacing warehouses AND maintenance!

Since the main stations are limited to TWO buildings, and you probably want the ones to improve passengers and mail in them, offloading the maint and the warehouse to a spoke is HUGE!

Great video! An extension off of this idea is to implement an hub and spoke strategy. If you want to target one city to grow tremendously you set warehouses at neighboring cities that transport all goods near them and produced to the one center city.

Not sure what I’ve been more excited for, this game or your videos!

One request from me is understanding express goods optimization. I always struggle with seeing 10+ passengers in the station but only a couple on my train

Nice introduction video to the new warehouses! There are 2 very important things though that needs to be considered -
1. If you have let’s say a rural farm/warehouse and you are trying to supply multiple cities /chained with warehouses/ with it with a basic good that good will not be utilized by the cities warehouse furthest away if there’s a “farm” closer to it. The game then will not use trains/tracks and will do it over land. So warehouse will not work in that case and you will have to build a direct railway if you want to use trains, speed up and keep up with demand.
2. You can’t use warehouses to supply goods to start a town. In this case since the town does not exist yet the warehouse can’t see the demand for those goods at that location and will not ship anything. Only way so far to start a new town from what I can see is to connect it directly to farms and city that supplies the goods needed.

Thank you for this! As a new player that's done the tutorials and the first campaign mission with a spiderweb of lines/tracks I knew there had to be more to it to simplify things! Subscribed and will be watching all your Railway Empire 2 content!
