THE EXPANSE Season 1 Review (Spoiler Free!)

The Expanse tells the story of a world where humans have colonized Mars and the Asteroid Belt. Now all three are at the verge of war. This is a season 1 review. For The Expanse. Which is on SyFy. And available on Netflix. I'm really bad at the descriptions but I don't think anyone reads this, it is pretty important for SEO though, so I'll just mention the fact that this is a season 1 review for The Expanse.

I'm more than halfway through season 3, and looking back, I would advise viewers of season 1 to stick with the first few episodes; it does get better and things do make sense. Because of the dense plot and diverse locations and characters, it's easy to ask yourself "What the heck is going on and why should I care?" But believe me, you'll thank yourself for seeing things through as the loose ends get tied together more and more. This is science fiction for adults, and it's a rare treat to find a program that caters to that, regardless of genre. Five stars.

Totally dig the Mass Effect comparison. The Expanse follows the same flow with the crew following a trail somewhere, building up to a climax, then on to the next location.

I’ve been watching and reading sci-fi for about twice as long as this guy’s been alive, probably and I think The Expanse is one of the very best shows ever produced. Of any kind. It’s a definite A+!!!

Watched all the seasons and cannot wait for the next one...this show is amazing! It's a well crafted world with various populaces with their own histories and even language in the case of the Belters...a must binge watch show!!! Great video!!

I had no problems with the first season the story was gripping i liked the characters. Star trek will have a hard job to please me like this did. Bring on season 2.

I watch a lot of shows and films and consider myself quite good at understanding plots quickly.. I found the expanse to be quite tricky because of how it's told and the sheer number of wheels in motion. It took me around 4-5 episodes before I could see what was going on.. and by the latter half of the series I was impressed. It came together really well at the end and I binge watched the last 4 episodes straight. Definitely worth a watch imo

i know the show is supposed to start in the 2300s, so in my headcannon i would say for all minkind is a prequel to the expanse, yeah yeah, i know they are not made by the same people but thats my headcannon

I got very confused with following everything.... so here I am lol
The beginning of this on the setting is what I needed. I was so confused, there was like 3 or 4 stories going on at the same time which were all unrelated and felt as though I was watching 4 different shows with no idea what one was about what. I remembered events but couldnt connect them.
Im on season 1 episode 5 right now and still lost, so had to figure out what I missed lol

This is also what more "realistic" Sci-fi would look like. The space battles, thrust and spin gravity, how g's affect people in ships depending on the speed, the weaponry used. The fact that people always get into space suits before a space battle incase of a hull breach. It's the hardest of Sci-fi.

The Expanse seem to be basically Battlestar Galactica 2.0 mix with Firefly the prequel sprinkle in it. Its only missing cybernetic robots and space cowboys. I mean there are space pirates in Expanse too. Lol.

A review with a guy sayin he watched his phone during some episodes. Then say the CGI is meh when its probably the best CGI a scifi series has had in years. And talks about mass effect but not battlestar galactica, which is an obvious inspiration. Yeah, shit review.

About modern [so-called] sci-fi; this is becoming a trend that I find to be really annoying.
I have a hard time these days, trying to track down genuine cerebral sci-fi, because of having to wade through all the dumbed down action movies/series that are being mislabelled as sci-fi.
We know sci-fi to be stories that are driven by science, and that distinctly use science (showcasing scientific theories of the era) to resolve the plot, e.g. Fringe (TV Series) - parallel worlds, time travel, and paradoxes.
Crazy Tech, Robots, Guns that make weird sounds, and Space Battles, is NOT sci-fi. That's just your average action movie.
James Bond (Moonraker) fits the category of Crazy Tech, Robots, Guns that make weird sounds, and Space Battles, yet we correctly don't call it sci-fi.

I just finished season 1. I love the complexity of the universe the series depicts but I think with a more clear vision and a bigger budget it could be Westworld level and that kind of bums me. For instance, many of the surprising moments in the later episodes didn't feel so surprising or shocking because they just have a very unimaginative build up and visual style. I'll definitely check season 2 though.
