It’s little to do with terrorism, rather a response to the growing influence Russia and China.

The sad truth is a weak and divided Africa benefits the whole world not just US, russia, and China but literally everyone (Europe, Middle East, Asia). If Africa is divided and in turmoil then everyone can be if it from buying all their raw goods on the cheap. If Africa were to get its act together and be free of outside assistance it would not be as easily exploited.

Props to CBS for blurring the soldiers' tattoos. Not all media thinks to do this.

Was wondering when this would happen. I toured ISIS’s website after the Russia attack and they seem to be building momentum in Africa.

Haven’t we learned anything in 20 or 30 years of counter insurgent warfare?

The reporters shouldnt't lump the Sahel countries like Mali, Burkino Faso into one thing they are not the same. The map is incorrectly showing countries that aren't even part of the Sahel, ie Sudan, Mauritania, Senegal, Ethiopia, Eritrea. The origins of their current political events and geopolitics are each unique and different from one another. And also Kenya has no connection to what's happening in the Sahel. You're talking about two different regions West Africa where the Sahel is and East Africa where Kenya is. The U.S. is only now concerned with Mali, BF and Niger since these governments are allying and working with Russia and China not to mention Niger and Mali kicked out the French, Americans and British counter terrorism troops to deal with the internal problems themselves.

I honestly don’t know why we’re doing it. They’ve made it very clear throughout the years they prefer to have China or Russia such a waste of time there
