The game that I'm developing as an indie game dev is called Isadora's Edge! A 2D Pixel Art platformer game, that I'm developing in the Godot Game Engine! If you're new to Godot or have any questions about Godot or game dev in general, feel free to ask me! #indiegame #gamedesign #godot #godotengine #gaming #gamedevelopment #pixelart #gameengine

AI's confidence while being completely wrong is comical. Glad my Software Engineering degree isn't obsolete just yet.

Who needs an AI to write broken code when I can write broken code myself?

Remember, an generative AIs pourpose is to *look* human. Its meant to seem like your talking to a person

this is why i just never use it at all, it’s just so confident when being blatantly wrong you never know if it’s correct unless you already know the answer to what you are asking.

It's because Godot is under-represented in the training set. GD Script is also a domain-specific language, so there are significantly less examples of it to train on compared to C#.

AI helps me learn to code by being so wrong that I do research to correct it.

Thanks AI.

Tangentially related rant; I am in a game design class at my high school (have been for three years, there only being three years in the course) and my teacher has
- Made us do art projects where the recommended method is inserting a prompt into A.I. and edit that image slightly.
- Insisted on the creation of NFTs, said they were ‘the future of gaming’
- Hasn’t taught us how to code AT ALL (Giving us online tutorials doesn’t count; it wasn’t him teaching.)
- Whenever someone asks him to teach us how to code, says “you don’t need to learn how to code! Just ask ChatGPT until it works!”

Gen ai is good at LOOKING right to people that don't know what makes the correct thing right in the first place. But it's very bad at actually being right.

Chatbots are generative. They write mostly language stuff. The more specific you try to go with them, the more annoying it gets.

They are like a kid who knows alphabets but don't know words yet and instead copies from books newspapers and what not.

A kid with brain but not a brainy kid.

Also, the more varied topics you use in a chat, the more forgetful it becomes. The more wrong it becomes.

Keep your chats short and don't expect much.

But if you provide an entire paragraph providing a solid skeleton with organs and stuff, it might just filled in the flesh and skin nicely.

Ai is electronic satan, your spaghetti code is infinitely more impressive no matter the skill level

Let's say you want to use AI to write code for you

*Don't*

That's why I keep AI as a supportive tool, as it should be. People tend to rely on it too much.

Mainly I use AI to help explain any topic or code I don't follow or understand properly when I'm learning new stuff, which happens a lot considering I'm still a noob.

Even if it's familiar with the code, you spend more time correcting the code than you would've spent making the code manually.

Remember, use AI only for an assistant. Otherwise you won't learn anything

I experimented with this and it often can correct itself if you mention something like "This was removed in 4.4 can you rewrite it for 4.4" and it spits out something that works relatively well

It's because it's been trained with Godot code that isn't explicitly labeled by version and the datasets are small. Happens with other languages that see a lot of breaking changes between versions

Better solution: Dont use generative ai AT ALL

I find it's best to use it when there's some niche thing you're trying to do, as sometimes functions aren't the easiest thing to search for when you don't have a precise definition.

It'll probably make some half-baked code but also use some thing you've never seen before, and that becomes a good launch pad for your own directed research \o/

I learned Godot for a jam recently and claude worked decently well. It still breaks down when you get into anything more complicated like editor plugins though
