I know you touched mostly Syrian genetics, but I wanted to add the biggest issue with campbells & hybrids genetic wise, aside from temperament and diabetes, & glaucoma, would be the breeding of two ruby eyed (not to be confused with red eyed) mottled hamsters. They will be born with no eyes and no teeth, so while Syrians can live life, the dwarfs pass by about 2 weeks of age due to starvation.

Here's a quick recap for anyone who missed it:
*just dont breed your hamsters!*
Breeding comes with lots of risks and responsibilities, so if you really want to better the species consider shadowing an already ethical breeder instead. :)

I just got a dwarf hamster last night! She’s loving her wheel and she enjoys burrowing a lot!! I love her so much!!!

Update: I’ve made so much progress with taming Blossom!! Whenever I put my hand in her enclosure she climbs on, or just sniffs at it. I still love her so much! 😂💕

When i was younger i tried breeding two hamsters. They attacked each other. I made so many mistikes with my hamster, but now i know everything about hamstercare. So if i ever get another hamster i'm gonna give it the best life ever because of your channel. Thanks for educating me and many other!😊

I’m glad you mentioned hairless hamsters! Not sure if you know this YouTuber but Pickles Pets got a hairless hamster from a breeder and she received so much backlash when the video came out. To make it worse, she got the hamster KNOWING the breeding of hairless hamsters is unethical and controversial.

People have been waiting for an explanation from her on why she got a hairless hamster knowingly and it’s been three months and she’s said nothing. It’s made people disappointed and angry.

This is important for any animal. I remember when I got my chinchilla, he was alone so I started looking for a friend for him. I checked all the rescues in my area and saw that the animal shelter closest to me had one for adoption, problem is, it was a female. When my sister saw this, she was like "oh you should get her. we could breed them and sell the babies." I told her no, absolutly not. We knew nothing about the care for chinchilla litters and we also didn't know their genetic backgrounds since both would have been adoptions. I was not gonna put the lives of the mother or the babies in jeperdy just because someone thought it was a good idea to sell the babies.

This has helped me so much, it has made me understand more about hamsters overall. My hamster that I got that was from a home breeder, passed away sadly yesterday and she only lived for a few months. I think this is why, you should always check the signs even for home breeders as I didn’t know. She was also very scared and skittish as I got her but she was so good and I was so proud of her, it’s just so heartbreaking to lose a best friend that you gained there trust and worked so hard for them to sadly pass away. I know no to be careful even when buying a hamster from a home breeder, as it was very clear this person only bred them for the money. Thanks again for the help 😇

I have had people training to be vets say they want to breed their pet shop bought hamsters. I told them why they shouldn't. They just came back with they had bred other rodents and they knew what they were doing. They saw it as something they needed to do for experience to be a vet or 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️😭😭🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I'm so glad you mentioned hairless hamsters too. Thanks to a certain youtuber loads of their followers now think they are cute and want one too. 🤦‍♀️

This is such a brilliant video, anytime someone talks about breeding their shop bought hamsters because they are so cute, I'm just sending them the link to this video.

This is so important video, I really hope that people who decide to breed just for cute babies or profit see this.

This kind of breeding is also such a big problem in pet budgie communities. I've seen countless comments on videos about how people (mostly kids) ask how can I make my budgies breed or why won't my budgies breed. Their reasoning for breeding is to get cute chicks. That's it. And it always makes me so sad that there are so many irresponsible people who breed. Most of the times, the birds are from pet stores. You don't know their health, history or sometimes even age (also they might be related). I could go on and on about this topic. (Sorry for brining birds into this, but I know if I commented on a bird video about this I would get attacked and I needed to get it out.)
