Feeling burnt-out?

We all get burnt-out from time to time, I wanted to create a short video to discuss the topic in general to spark some conversation, as well as provide some insight on how you can try to beat it.

This could not have come at a better time. Right now I'm very burnt out on space engineers looking at anything I've made thinking its not good enough, I have scrapped dozens of ideas over the past 2 days. Thank you for the inspiration to go back to enjoying a game

It really is the worst if you jump on and then have no idea or clue what you shall build or how you should go about building it

This is so relatable and it's really nice to see a video actually addressing it with a few tips on what to do, This will 1000% help's!

The part that hit me the most in particular was the feeling of inedequacy towards other creators one such feeling i've experienced one too many times now. It can be described as jealousy or perhaps guilt that you're not putting enough efforts in comparision to someone else's work without even thinking about how much experience they could have or their background. I dislike making competition out of anything and trying to outdo another one's creative skills or steam workshop clicks so I sometimes have to bury these unhealthy feelings.

Point is this video isn't only going to be attributed to a silly little sandbox game but with anything in life.

Sorry for this long essay this video profoundly resonated with me 😅

Fantastic video, thanks! On bigger projects I keep text files that record my progress on things, such as one that's replacing most of the vendor grids available. For each grid--say a welding ship for example--I'll have a section where I keep track of ideas, things to do, things that are done. A note could be " - add more vertical thrust for max load capacity", when that's finished I change it to "DONE - add more vertical thrust for max load capacity" and move it to the bottom of the section where I keep all the "done" things. That way I can not only accurately keep track of what I've done, but it keeps me motivated when I can scroll down and see all the work I've done in a day in a detailed list. "Hmm, it felt like today wasn't that great but I guess I did get a lot done, and I forgot I finished the Landslide Miner this morning too, guess today as actually pretty great!" My obsessive need to keep track of things can really come in handy sometimes.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend, you too LK.

I find myself too often, opening space engineers, loading up a world, building a cockpit or a small part of the ship, and then usually just delete it, and close SE

I just got the answer to a question I wasn't considering asking anyone. You, sir, have read my mind. And the only thing I can say right now is:
Thank you.

Don't worry I definitely relate to this. I've got a ton of things that are just sitting waiting to be finished. That last bit of polish to do before posting up always seems to take longer and longer.

I think this video should do really well cause you're absolutely right. Burn out is a real thing, especially in creative games like this. I've been designing and redesigning the same ship since PS5 release. At times, I get stuck and close out the game because I'm frustrated. It actually took a buddy of mine making a jokingly rude comment for me to finally get out of my head and start over for the 15th time. I liked version 14, but it was missing something that should've been there. Versions 1 through 14 were all the same ship, just modified, but for version 15 I needed to go bigger to incorporate the missing item, which meant starting from scratch, and I didn't wanna start from scratch.

Totally know what you mean, the amount of cinematics, gaming videos and 3d models I've abandoned over the years is crazy. Also get burnt out when you put a lot of effort into something that doesn't do as well as something you put hardly no effort to.
Thanks for the video man, glad you didn't scrap this video! +1sub

This is a major problem I've had with a lot of my creative games. I'll try it out and I really hope it helps, but even if it doesn't I'm extremely glad that you posted this video in the first place.

I just suck at building so I make function over looks. It’s mainly bare bones for looks leaving a blank canvas for upgrades and improvements. I have seen growth in my 2 years of playing from the blockiest rover into a very tube like multipurpose ion ship. I do love keen’s builds as I find them simple yet functional. Red team ships are better looking in my opinion but sometimes I do feel burned out so I swap the game or completely change my pace so my brain stops thinking about space engineers and instead say deep rock galactic. When I come back I have much more and better ideas than before. I realize I made a paragraph but it was nice to just say this.

I've seen a couple of vids like this from various content creators across multiple sandbox/survival games I play and observed.
Burnout and half finished projects are really a plague even I got infected with, always tinkering, always half-building something, always preparing that best mod loudout experience for me to play with, never to finish any of it at the end.

I don't comment much and this might not work for me but your care and thoughts are there and you put time and motivation on this for others so.. thank you, Lunar. I appreciate it and I'm sure many others do too. I hope that everyone's motivation improves over time and remember that you are your own biggest judge because you live with yourself 24/7. Take a step back and think about everything you've done. Be proud.

Thank you for making this video, I'll try to use this method on some of my builds that are taking a bit too long for my liking
I'm glad I found this video

Really enjoyed this. Thank you for making it. I’ve been feeling burned out creatively with another medium so have returned to Space Engineers, funnily enough
