Formal student of authoritarianism here. Pretty good explanation overall but I would add that authoritarian governments can hold free and competitive elections to the legislature and executive branches. This is called competitive authoritarianism which has somewhat recently developed in Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union.

I think it would have been more fit to include Vladimir Putin in these images as opposed to Donald Trump. In the US, we have a representative democracy and Donald Trump led under it during his 4 year term as a president of the US.

By your definition, Authoritarianism is essential to all governance system. any government, be it democratic, autocratic, totalitarian, monarchial and other kind must have the total obedience of their citizen if they will be effective. basically all government are authoritarian otherwise they are ineffective.
