00:00 - what's been going on
01:10 - I joined a game dev startup
05:43 - why I moved to the most expensive city
07:27 - conclusion

So I've been somewhat radio silent the last month... and there's a good reason for that! In the last video, I mentioned that I quit my full time job at Google, and I left it somewhat open ended on what I was doing next.

In addition to the job change, I also move to New York City! After spending 4 years in Seattle, I felt like I needed a change of scenery. So I guess I decided to move to the most expensive city in the US.

With switching jobs and moving across the country, I still found time to work on my first indie game Castlemancer! I've made a ton of progress and the demo is almost ready for release. The learning game dev journey is challenging but definitely worth it. I have a new devlog coming soon to highlight all of the progress I've made recently!

Comment down below what you think about all of these decisions I made!

If you like roguelike deckbuilders, consider wishlishting my first indie game Castlemancer over on Steam!

For a minute i though moving to NY after quitting your job is the dumbest idea ever, but luckily you know what you're doing

Good luck with the idea. I quit my job as well to chase after the dream of creating art/digital assets and got rather lucky with it.

Building community is key, nyc has been really challenging on that after pandemic. We need to get people together...

I love this startup idea, yes most good game developers are not full time, mainly there on first world countries... here i can live kinda forever with 1k a month, and even so, cant make time to finish a game with a 10-12hour a day job

I wish you luck, really ambitious. Nobody has been able to touch Steam.

Also I don't think this sounds very useful to most indie developers, it sounds like a platform that mainly benefits live service games with lots of MTX - don't know what the avg indie dev is going to do with a web shop or special launcher (if thousands of people avoid playing AAA epic games store exclusives, literally nobody is going to play someone's indie game if its not on steam).
