In this new tutorial by flomotion you will learn how to create the famous Freeze time effect that you have seen on instagram and tiktok.
At first I am going to show you same really cool and interesting camera tips and tricks to get you started. You will learn all about the shutter speed, the shutter angle and the exposure time, and how that can help with your freeze time effect workflow.
You will learn how to set up your composition in after effects, and how to create a super easy freeze time, where the frozen frame sits on top of the video!
But I will also go one step further and show you how to create this but this time with the freese frame behind the footage! So I am going to show you the roto brush tool to get this done!
You will also learn some tips and tricks along the way, about the keylight effect, the luma key as well as the extract effect.
And as a bonus I am going to show you how to create a fake focus pull using the camera lens blur effect!
We will also jump into photoshop to show you how to cut yourself out of any photo in less then 5 seconds with the automated selcetion tool! Select the object, create a mask and you are done!
This tutorial will be super easy to follow along as I am showing everything from beginning to end! Therefore it is perfect for absolute beginners as well as trained professionals
"Hey hello and welcome to this really fun tutorial by flomotion,
because today I am going to show you how to create this really hip freeze time effect as you may have seen on instagram and tiktok.
Because the shutter speed defines how sharp your image and therefore also your freeze frame will be!
So here is a quick lesson all about shutter speed:
as you may know, to see a video smoothly, you need to record a cerain amount of frames per second (FPS)
But back to the exposure time: of course you can shoot faster than 1/25s of a second. with some cameras even up to 1/4000th or even 8000th of a second.
Now let's bring this a bit further form picture to movie: so far we know, that the faster we are shooting, the less blurry our image will be! So the video has less motion blur!
And maybe you have seen, that film cameras and also post procudtion software like for example After Effects will calculate motion blur not with shutter speed but with a shutter angle..
Lets look back: in the old film days, the film strip moved through the camera, and then the film was exposed, so the singel picture was taken.
And this is done 25 times a second
And in the same speed the shutter was spinning! So for each of the 25 frames the shutter spins around one time in front of the image.
And to adjust the exposure time, there was simply a cutout in the shutter wheel. So if you only have 180° of the shutter, the film will be therefore exposed for half the framerate...
And also 180° is standart these days, because the motion blur resulting from that is what looks most natural to the human eyes!
So for 25 fps a 180° shutter means 1/50 exposure time
But now I also know why I did not like math back in school
but anyways
All you need to know for now is, that the smaller the cutout, the smaller the degrees and the angle, the shorter the image gets exposed. So a small degree means less motion blur
