There's a lot more to being in a coma than just the idea of being "unconscious." But what exactly defines consciousness and unconsciousness? Join us as we travel along the spectrum of consciousness and unconsciousness, defining terms for different areas on this spectrum and explaining how they relate to a comatose state. We'll define terms such as:

*Being fully alert and attentive
*Encephalopathy or delirium
*Locked-in syndrome
*Minimally conscious state
*Persistent vegetative state
*Medically induced coma
*Acute coma
*Prolonged coma
*Brain death

What do they mean legally dead? Are they the same as being physically dead? Or this is a technical term as the body have no traces of soul in it or any traces of bodily animation in it?
