Two best phones tested - the Apple iPhone 4S and the HTC One X are both premium phones, but which one comes out top in our speed test?

We test turn on time, camera speed and processor when loading a web-page.

We've revamped our battery test and are slowly re-doing things. When we re-do this one we'll bear that in mind. Thanks for your comments.

Wow, nice to see you replicating our tests! We'll re-do the test with a One S next week and let you know our findings.

We never said they were comparable handsets in terms of specs and processor etc, but lots of people ask us for iPhone vs EVERYTHING comparisons so here they are :) thanks for watching.

Personal preference is a big deal in the smartphone world. That's why we find it very difficult to say particular handsets are hands-down the best. We test devices as best we can, but in the end it's up to the individual. Thanks for watching :)

Thanks for watching, we hope the tests were helpful. Anything else you'd like to see us test in video? Within reason :)

Why did you change the zoom level during the page load on the HTC but not the iPhone? Reflowing text and images takes a lot of processing power.

Check our HTC One X vs iPhone 4S camera test video for the QUALITY of the images/video captured (in video responses). This test is strictly about speed > in the case of the camera, the shutter speed. Thanks for watching :)

Flash was left on auto - but because of our bright studio lights, the flash wasn't activated.

the internet speed itself is determined by the network, either wifi or 3g. both phones were on the same network during the test (presumably for it to be fair test) therefore what was being tested was how fast the browser loads, not the internet speed. The browser is an app on the phone, app loading is handled by the processor speed ie the ghz. and if you know htc at all, you'll know that the battery icon only turns orange when batt is at most 30% left, so battery was in fact low!

How exactly did the iPhone finish loading the web page faster if the "stop loading(X)" button was in the url bar instead of the refresh button?

And why did the iPhone not show the spiral loading in the upper left of the screen when loading the web page like every other iPhone does?

Why did you leave flash enabled on the One X?

Why did you only pinch to zoom out on the One X and not the iPhone?

Why was the One X's batter like at 10%? it goes to power save mode

I want answers...

Did the One X have plug-ins enabled (flash)?
also try using chrome beta, like Safari it doesnt use flash and has better GPU use for html5.

I've been an Apple customer since 2007. Any problems I've ever had with an iPhone over the years I've brought it to an Apple store and the service has been top notch. I've even cracked my iPhone 4 screen and they replaced it with a brand spanking new iPhone 4 no questions asked. Can't say the same for Droids. Good luck with shipping it back to the company and waiting.

I've had a Desire HD for well over a year now (awesome phone) and quite often the browser will fully load a page and it will be fully usable, as in able to scroll, zoom, navigate etc. However the green bar at the top does the same as the One X does right there. I don't know what it is with the load bar, but let me tell you it has no relation with whether the page has fully loaded and usable or not. Might have something to do with loading all the flash in the background which iOS doesn't do.
