Vieta's Formula: a simple example

This question is regarding Vieta's formula, it uses routine technique and is suitable for beginners. There are two different approaches to this question. You may want to see a non-routine method, using the ideas of roots.

During lesson, I showed the solution of this question, using the second method in the video. After the solution, some students stood up, held their heads in their hands, and muttered to themselves with mask on. Oh, I just recalled that we were discussing Vieta's formula, then I used Vieta's formula to solve the same problem again.

However, we do not necessarily always stick to a particular method in problem solving. We may use different methods, as long as it is a valid approach.
