I Went Inside Google's (Waymo) Self-Driving Car Facility

THIS IS WHERE IT ALL HAPPENS

Waymo (previously Google's self driving car project, now a separate company under alphabet) recently gave me and some people a really cool tour of their facility where they have all their self driving cars. These are actually in use with customers who signed up for their Waymo One program, which is going to be continuously expanding. I also got to take a ride and show you what it's like inside.

As a disclosure, Waymo paid for transportation to/from the facility, but I did not get paid to make this video or anything.

Snow, slush, and black ice would be my points of concern as far as the handling goes. I'm curious about how it would it react during a hydroplaning situation.

Just wondering how those little spinning sensors work in northern climates with snow and freezing rain.. Is the black dome heated so prevent ice build up? Or are these southern cars only?

They need to get rid of the backup driver asap (kinda senseless for self-driving cars). Also all the sensors need to be miniaturised, because the extra bulk on the car is kinda ugly and causes extra drag, which you don't want on electric cars. Tesla is going way faster than Waymo on this.

So when are they going to start integrating crypto as a form of payment? Imagine how cool it would be to have a Waymo vehicle pull up picks you up and you just pay with your smart phone by scanning a QR code on their screen and paying to a crypto address. None of the hassle of needing a credit card.

When you went there did you have to sign a non disclosure agreement for the real ride ! Lidar will remove all wood and see through anything they wish !
