Great comparison! I'd love to see Sony (or someone) do a 35-150mm with a constant f/2.8, and save a bit on the size/weight. That's the main thing that's been making me pause on picking up either of these.

People please just go the Tamron. I shoot video so initially thought the Samyang lens was the better option with the par-focal feature and lower price. After shooting around 80 weddings with the Samyang I found it to be temperamental with focusing. 99% of the time it was fine, but occasionally it would completely 'crash' and in order to get the focus working again I'd have to disconnect and reconnect the lens - I completely lost faith in the lens when this happened mid wedding ceremony, and the lens went insanely out of focus rendering a minute or so of the couple's footage un-usable (luckily I had a secondary angle covering my ass) The lens wouldn't respond until I disconnected it from the camera and re-connected. I also found that in auto focus when zooming in or out, the autofocus would loose focus momentarily (so much for par-focal) which is an issue when you're trying to shoot video of say the bride coming down the aisle. After 10months use, I've now sent the Samyang back for repair under warranty, hoping they find something as the problem is intermittent and not immediately obvious. I've since bought the Tamron, and I've found it to be a much better made lens and the focus issues have gone away. - FYI I'm shooting on Sony a7siii's and yes I did do a firmware update on the Samyang. So IMO Tamron has made a better product so spend the extra coin for the peace of mind. For weddings, this focal range and aperture is unbeatably versatile, if you've got the arm strength (as it gets pretty heavy hand held) - you can shoot an entire wedding with it if you wanted to - PS. Also the Samyang lens used to creep open if you filmed in a downwards angle uuhhgg.

Watching this while waiting for my Tamron to be delivered💀🤣

It looked to me, that the Samyang wasn't parfocal, but was using its Autofocus Motors to compensate when zooming. But that's just from looking at your footage. It becomes blurry twice, then snaps back into focus.

As always, a great video. Would love to see you do an in depth photo comparison of the two lenses.

When using AF, I never noticed the Tamron not being parfocal. Footage looks great when zooming on an A7IV

Great comparison. I've had the Tamron for 2 years on an A1 and it has been excellent. But I just got a Lumix S5iiX and will get the Samyang version as soon as it is available in L-mount. I'm used to the weight and size. I use a monopod a lot... because of the weight and size. I need and use the zoom range and the fast aperture for indoor sports.

In Australian dollar. I got the samyang for under $1500, cheapest tamron was about $2250, Australian stock didn't want to buy samthing on the Gray market because you won't get warranty. A $750 difference will help buy a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 g2. So far the samyang has been amazing.

Thanks so much for making this video! You've helped me make a decision on new gear to buy. You're engaging and I love your style and cadence in your reviewing. Keep it up!

Hi guys, i ve got the tamron.
i really love it.
I own 14 lenses now and most of them are not parafocal (or not with précision).
My sony lenses are not parafocal either.
I do only video.
it s not disturbing me.
My 35-150 tamron is 5 years warrenty and weight less (it s Still a heavy lens yet).
Moreover i need the same color than my other lenses (28-75g2 and 70-180) so when i use the 3 in an interview it marches better.
For these reason tamron is better for me.
See you guys

I don't understand what you mean by the Samyang feature that allows you to do dolly zooms. To me that means that you dolly the camera while also controlling the zoom. What does the custom switch/ring feature do in this situation?

finally a review that I'm waiting for..

If I remember correctly, Gerald Undone showed in his video that his sample performed as a parfocal lens. Obviously there is some sample variation at play.

I simply found the Samyang to have a nicer rendering.

Woody looked more out of focus on that lens in the comparison. Which is nice when making your subject pop from the background

Using tamron from last 1.5years very good all around lens I would say, only issue is the weight. Love it 16-35 Gmaster and 35-150 tamron make my bag size smaller

Great vs video! I was very curious with this one and wow that samyang surprised me as a Tamron fan boy. I have been trying to go all Sony lately, but we shall see

I feel like the Samyang (after the update) is a really good deal, especially because I found it for 980$ and there seems to be a lot of customisation that doesn't require a PC, which I appreciate as an amateur photographer.
