So is this lens for you or what else would your prefer? Let me know! 😁

I'm still waiting for an affordable G-Master 10-600 mm f1.2 pancake internal zoom lens :)

But in the meanwhile, I think this is a really good compromise :) but still not available over here in Germany

just bought it for $300 over MSRP because i need it for wedding and family portraits. and honestly, it is worth. $2, 299 USD. to be able to cover that focal range from ONE position in run-gun shooting, this is perfect. Canon would never make this focal range as it would cannibalize their current line up. you all can keep waiting forever while i capture all the shots I want.

Another fantastic video! I shot 37 wedding ceremony’s with the same set up like you have. This is definitely my lens & the a7 IV is amazing!!! I never pulled my back up camera on😂

It's a really great lens for a lot of uses and people.

Handheld video is quite ok, as long as you don't need to shoot for too long and get tired.

Personally, I believe who uses it better also have either a Tamron 28-75 2.8, or a set of primes, to get when they don't need ALL that this lens offers, and when they need a lighter package with a shorter focal range, for instance. But with the same stellar image quality, most of the background separation, and great build and autofocus.

I’d been looking at either the Sony 24-70 GM2 or the Tamron 28-75 G2 paired with a Sony 70-200 f4 G before seeing recommendations for this lens. I think I’ve decided to go with this rather than the other 2 lens option as it appears to do such a good job.

FYI, lenses don't have IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization)...they may, however, have IS (Image Stabilization), OS (Optical Stabilization), VR (Vibration Reduction), OSS (Optical Steady Shot), VC (Vibration Compensation), just to name a few.

This lens has always caught my attention but as a video shooter I never really needed it. It was massive and external zoom always bothered me as Tamron are known for sucking in dust. I did however just trade in my 50mm GM 1.4 for the Samyang version, and with minimal out of pocket fees on it, glad to pick it up. Now if they only made it for L mount.

No a problem with any of the reasons 😂! I have done a few Hiking trails with the Sony G 200-600 and that’s a heavy beast!

Took me to the end of the video to notice that I took a similar photo to the one on your T-shirt and have it printed on my living room! Koln, right?
Really considering getting this lens as my "one and only" especially now that they are reasonably priced on the second hand market.

Thank you so much for covering this particular lens so extensively. Based on your experience how much would you rate it out of 10?

If you want to travel with just a 24 to 70mm, then rather just take one of the sony, canon, panasonic pocket carry cameras with that zoom range, they have great aperture depending on the model 1.7 to 2.8 etc. If you want to take your mirrorless, then you should take this lens, because it will offer more variety of shots than a premium pocket carry.

1. Weight. Almost all 70-200 f/2.8 lenses are heavier than this. Okay, GM2 is a bit lighter, but it does not have 35 f/2. For paid event shooting it is champion lens. For shooting outdoor crap it is too heavy to carry with.
2. Price. This lens replaces 2 zooms or 4 primes, so what are you talking about? Again, for shooting outdoor crap it does not worth
3. Stabilisation. There is sensor stabilisation, as well you can use gyro flow software for active stabilisation. And this lens has little focus breathing.
For gimbal… only with additional mount on your body, otherwise your back will be dead first.
This lens has some flaws:
1. It loses contrast shooting backlit a lot.
2. Sucks dust
3. It does not supports active video stabilisation as well as native glass, does supports breathing compensation and faster than 15 fps shooting continuous - but this is how Sony makes their own lenses better than 3rd party ones.

it doesn't have IBIS? ...Huh? ...IBIS stands for in-body image stabilization

Walking around New York all day I definitely feel the weight 😅😅

My biggest concern is the aperture. I can get a 135/1.8 + 35/1.4 combo for the same price.

I could be a lot helpful if you try to make a cinematic video without slowing the clips and all in handled :)
By the way your girlfriend was recording you with handled with the tamron 17-28 ?

I've had this lens for two years and I don't use it that often cause it's so fat and heavy lol
