Blood pressure instability is a common effect of spinal cord injury (SCI), making it difficult to change body position – moving from lying to sitting to standing.
In an international study co-led by Dr. Aaron Phillips, PhD, at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine and Dr. Grégoire Courtine, PhD, at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, the researchers have shown that spinal cord stimulators can bridge the body’s autonomous regulation system, controlling blood pressure without medication. Findings are published in Nature.
