A tragic tale for tragic times. Tolkien’s personal tragic experience with war and inhumanity left deep impressions on one of his most important themes of eucatastrophe. We all have the potential to descend into orcish activities due to the misery we endure. Túrin shows us what happens when this misery becomes overwhelming. A lesson for us to hold to our virtues and reject violent vengeance.

Epic re-storytelling. Let us all engage in collective genuflection at the unique genius of Tolkien to create SOOO MANY intricately interwoven mythical histories!

Rainbow Dave: “For once, everything is going to be good for Turin and nothing will go wrong!”

Me (in John Cena voice): “Are you sure about that?”

Your first episodes inspired me to start reading the book and I’ve been reading and following along simultaneously since part one. Sadly I got too invested (thanks for that) and finished the book before your video series was complete. The way you describe the weight of every characters’ actions and feelings made me enjoy and fully grasp the story as much as I did. I just want to say thank you for the passion you have for telling stories because now this is officially my favorite tragedy of all time.

Praise to be unto the Valar! May the road go ever on and on, dear friends. Rainbow Dave - we would follow you into the battle of Unnumbered Tears without hesitation.

It is because of you that I finally started and finished and understood “The Silmarillion “ thank you so much for these videos, you have brought Tolkien to so many people. I look forward to every new video you make. To me you make the best videos that further my understanding of the Tolkiens work. Many thanks from Nova Scotia, Canada. 😊

I can't believe four people beat me to being the first like. The most anticipated videos on YouTube.

I was rereading Return of the King last night and I was not emotionally prepared to see that Faramir’s mother was named Finduilas 😭💔

One would almost think Morgoth is playing the most twisted kind of matchmaker here with all this peace and gentle seasons. I feel so sorry for everyone, esp Brandir. He really doesn't deserve it at all. It's like Morgoth is using Turin as a tool to destroy each of his remaining enemies in a Roadtrip of Beleriand. On a side note I wonder what would have happened if TurIn met the Sons of Feanor?? Too much angst and darkness in one room?

I so Desperatly want Túrin to succeed, this has been too draining for me, when we are given just enough hope only to beat us down and reminded of all the oaths and curses of the first age, whether it is the Oath of Fëanor, Judgement of Mandos, Oath of Finrod to Barahir, and the Curses of Mim and Húrin, or any other. All these bring only despair and ruin. I will not see any oath binding or cursing as ever a moment of Victory or anything that comes with such deeds as I am only moved to shedding of tears by this tale.

Note how much longer Rainbow Dave's videos on Turin are compared to those on Beren; notice, too, that his series on Turin lasts thirteen unfortunate videos, compared to simply nine for Beren. Tolkien labored longer on this tale first and more than any other part of what is now called the Silmarillion, and it shows, love it or loathe it.

What an unsettling calm before the storm...knowing the ending makes me all the more apprehensive following along with this chapter for the 6th time in the last 2 weeks!

I love chapters like this in stories; chapters that give you the time to reflect on everything that has been gained and lost, to spend some more downtime with the characters you've come to love, and to take that deep breath right as the foreboding ending of the chapter hits you, and you realise the ending to the whole story - cathartic or calamitous - has finally started. I love your entire First Age series, but I have never been more hooked on it than I am right now.

Always a great day when a new video gets dropped!

If I had a nickel every time Turin was in a love triangle with someone who saved his life only for Glaurung to ruin everything, I'd have two nickles. But it is still weird it happened twice.

Even though I know what is yet to come, still you capture my imagination with your wonderful storytelling. I look forward to the next chapter.
