Walmart sends huge warning about US economy (people are broke)

Walmart reported quarterly earnings and showed 4% revenue growth. Which historically is a sign of a slowing economy, as more people go to Walmart because of discounted groceries.

Back in the mid-2000s Walmart's revenue grew every year during the housing bubble crash. Walmart is a countercyclical economic indicator that performs well when everyone else is performing worse.

I was shocked at how much cheaper grocery prices were at Walmart than Publix (and Dollar Tree). They're going to drive a lot of other stores out of business.

Is this a good or bad thing for the economy...?

Our rent has gone up 10-15%/year but our wages have only gone up 2-3%/year. Something has gotta give.

I work for Publix and they recently had an emergency meeting in Orlando calling in all managers, which rarely happens. Turns out revenue is down and leadership wants our focus to be on lows and out of stocks on the shelves, which has ALWAYS been a priority. Leadership is out of touch with our customers and don’t understand that people can’t afford to shop at Publix. Even the associates they work for the company will shop elsewhere. Walmart and Aldi are taking customers from us and they can’t seem to understand that people are struggling and need to stretch their dollar.

We shop at Aldi and they are 30 to 50% less than Publix on almost every item. Yes it requires giving up devotion to name brands. Saving $200 to $300 a month on groceries makes it worth it.

Our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

Dollar Tree began driving towards a cliff when they decided they are no longer the dollar store.

The US economy cannot survive without continuous credit and debt creation. The FED will print more money and the average American will go just that much further in debt. Meanwhile, foreigners lust for the greenbook. Their economies are in worse condition than the US... if that's even possible. Someone is going to be left holding the bag and a cautious outlook regarding a potential recession..

You know shit's fucked when a 20k classic car is being sold for 5k because nobody will buy it above that lol. I see that all the time now on marketplace, nobody has money anymore

The U.S. economy relies on ongoing credit and debt generation for sustenance. The Federal Reserve is expected to increase the money supply, leading to further debt accumulation for the average American. Meanwhile, foreign nations continue to desire the U.S. dollar, despite their own economies facing significant challenges, some even worse than that of the U.S. This situation raises concerns about who will ultimately bear the consequences of these economic dynamics.

Wal-Mart isn’t the cheapest grocery store; Aldi is. Unfortunately, I can’t get everything I need to keep my kids going there, but if you just need the cheapest way to survive, that’s Aldi.

I don't care what people say, we've been in a recession since 2022.

It's sad how difficult things have become in this recessive economy. I was wondering how to utilize some money I had. I used some of it for e-commerce business, but that sank. I'm thinking of how to protect my $150K-worth stock portfolio from decline, but haven't figured which way to go.

Last thanksgiving, I needed some coconut cream for a recipe. It was under $2. In July of this year, I bought some for a different recipe. It was $5.49. In eight months, it more than doubled.

My husband makes me so mad, he always chooses Publix to go shopping at despite them being an absolute rip off. He doesnt like shopping at Aldi, so he doesn't go there.

And I told him that this is why I handle the grocery shopping.

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I worked for an advertising company that secured a portion of Walmart's business to produce inserts. However, Walmart consistently failed to pay their invoices. Despite repeatedly emailing the invoices, they claimed they never received them. Eventually, they outright told us to sue them, fully aware that their size and resources could overwhelm us with legal paperwork and prolong the process, costing us far more than they owed. It was a clear example of a large corporation strong-arming smaller businesses.

The belief that the Federal Reserve would stop raising interest rates was the driving force behind the entire economic chaos. What should we do now that we have a situation where interest rates are crashing? At this point, how would you suggest that I safely allocate $300k?
