The fact that virtually EVERY Eurovision performer that came before were all in the pop genre, then Lordi came along and changed EVERYTHING... it was the only time me and my Dad ever voted for anyone in the contest :')

"This is very Eurovision" funnily enough, at the time, this was something completely new and shocking to Eurovision fans, and stood out from all the pop stuff. That's probably why it won, people needed something different

The band has never done an interview or a promo event out of character. Thats dedication!

The story here is that Finland was at that point the country that had been participating the longest never winning it. And that one time we did win was with Lordi with, again at that point, the record breaking points as well. It was a thing back then.

I was 10yr when Lordi won. In Finland many of us little girls had always been fans of some heavier music (Nightwish for example), but Lordi took us all by surprise. Everyone was talking about it in every age range and for many of us smaller kids who weren't born when Finland won hockey the first time, it was the first taste of national pride. As here we rarely show much pride for anything and we are much faster to find the issues in everyday life. It was great.

One of the rare songs that make that silly show worth while lol

They kept in character during the whole show, respect. Those outfits are hot!

It was such a fresh breath of air at a time when Eurovision had become quite stale. Also of course every metal fan in Europe came out of the woodworks to vote them to victory.
Also funny to think that this one of the live performances with the biggest viewerships in history simply because Eurovision is the biggest live broadcast in the world

I love Lordi, I've had the pleasure of seeing them at a festival when I was writing for a local newspaper. They blew up the entire front of the stage just to start off the show. Pyro in literally everything, from the costumes to the instruments and even the drumsticks.

One of the maddest and best stage shows I've ever seen. Also, loads of fun! Although I gotta say, when I saw them, Mr Lordi hit the notes on this song a bit better even - but it was a few years later, so he propably got a bit of practice in :D

The high notes are actually sung by the extra background singer. Pasi Rantanen is his name. He is from power metal band Thunderstone. The keyboarad player does lower backing vocals.

Mr Lordi apparently had a throat infection just as the event kicked off. He did some work with his vocal coach & got through the semi final & final.

When they do the big finale the often missed backing vocalist in the monks outfit reveals himself in full Kiss makeup which is fitting given the whole band at this point loved Kiss.

I love this song and band... Seen them live a few times. I think it shows how much fun they are when they were on the show selecting the UK entry the year after they won, and even the presenter (Fern Cotton I think) was screaming "I love you Mr Lordi"

This was the first and only Eurovision final I´ve ever watched, and me and my brother had a blast watching this and celebrating the win. Oh, fun times

It's great to see Lordi get some love. They are a lot of fun. Ghost is great too in the theatrical vein.

So many months later, I saw them live and omg he had no issues keeping his vocals up over a 30min set even with screams. Truely a grit master.

They released a book called ''Lordiary'' here in Finland sometime ago where Mr. Lordi told that this and his semifinal performances are his worst in the history of Lordi just because he was so sick during them and his voice was really down and whatnot. He also pointed out how it's a shame that it's Lordi's most watched live performance and also by far his worst.
