Windows 10 & 11 - Low C Drive Disk Space? Move Installed Apps To Different Drive

If your Windows 10 or Windows 11 C drive has low disk space, you can move installed Windows 10 apps to a different drive in just a couple of clicks. While it can't move Windows desktop programs, just moving Windows apps can be very effective at reclaiming disk space.

If you don't have another drive to save to, try adding an internal or external SSD for more disk space. Even a small one can save your OS drive from being too crowded.

Since Facebook takes up about 1/2 GB and Messenger another 350+GB, you can quickly move the to another drive on your system. Just check out the App list in storage to find the apps that are hogging your disk space.

Greetings.

In order to free up some space on my C-drive, I followed the instructions of this very well explained video.

I have a whole lot of musical instrument apps on my C-drive and was hoping to move some of them to my external D-drive.

When I follow the instructions, the apps do indeed end up on the D-drive ... and no longer appear in the Storage/Apps & Features list ... but ... the storage space on the C-drive under "Apps & Features" remains the same!

I went onto Microsoft live chat this morning and gave remote access to the fellow there.

He looked around and clicked various things, but couldn't figure out what was going on.

Anyway, if you (or anyone reading this) have any suggestions or advice about what I can do to successfully free up some space by moving some apps -- or why, weirdly, moving apps is not freeing up any space, I would be most grateful.

Many Thanks, My Lenovo IdeaPad C drive was full. Now I can regain some space. Any programmes which I cannot 'move' I can uninstall and point the re-install to my D drive.

Thank you SO much!! My programs weren't working correctly due to low storage. I have a 500 ssd that was about full and a 1 terabyte that hasnt been used yet. Thank You and God bless!

Thanks! I had no idea my apps were downloading to my C drive when I had a whole other dedicated drive just for that! Just happened to notice while browsing for some files, and now I know to keep that from happening again. Thank you!!!

Thanks for this well explained video. I'm a bit disappointed that the Office 365 storage folder isn't easily movable and it's crippling my 120Gb SSD, too bad I wouldn't have to care about space left otherwise ... anyway, I've learnt something today and I'll move everything that's not essential to the HDD this way !
