Bellow I will provide you with a brief review of the best data recovery programs I covered in this video.

1. Disk Drill (Best Overall):
The first software we recommend is Disk Drill. It is a comprehensive data recovery suite that excels in all areas. Disk Drill offers powerful data recovery capabilities while also providing excellent data protection features, a user-friendly interface, and regular updates for continuous improvement. Some notable features of Disk Drill include advanced algorithmic searching, clear file previewing, advanced filtering options, and even data recovery from iPhones. It is fully compatible with Windows 11 and the latest version of Mac OS (Ventura), allowing cross-platform scanning. Additionally, Disk Drill offers flexible pricing options to fit different budgets and projects, making it a well-rounded choice.

2. TestDisk and PhotoRec:
For those seeking a free data recovery solution, we recommend TestDisk and PhotoRec. TestDisk primarily focuses on fixing disk and partition errors, making it useful for recovery after corruption, deletion, poor formatting, or missing partition tables. Although less polished, TestDisk remains easy to use. PhotoRec complements TestDisk by providing robust file and photo recovery capabilities. It supports over 400 different file extensions and continues to receive updates as open-source software. Both TestDisk and PhotoRec are available for various operating systems, making them suitable for different scenarios as the best free data recovery software.

3. R-Studio:
If you require more advanced features, R-Studio is an excellent choice. Originally developed for data forensics and IT professionals, R-Studio offers robust file recovery, advanced disk image creation, manual data entry, hex decimal editing, file preview with metadata display, and more. Its user interface may seem overwhelming for beginners, but a quick start guide is available on their website. R-Studio also offers a simpler alternative called R-Undelete. Despite the steeper learning curve, R-Studio provides cutting-edge features at an unbeatable price.

4. Recuva:
Recuva is a versatile data recovery app that caters to a wide range of users. With a basic yet user-friendly interface, Recuva can recover various file types from deleted, corrupted, or lost drives. The scanning process is quick and straightforward. However, Recuva lacks additional features for data protection and drive optimization. It is compatible with Windows only, so Mac users will need an alternative. Nevertheless, Recuva remains a reliable choice for simple and effective data recovery.

5. DMDE:
DMDE, short for Disk Management and Disk Editor, is a unique file recovery software with specialized capabilities. It can reassemble broken or corrupt file systems on any platform, making it helpful when drives are not recognized by your Mac or PC. DMDE also provides data recovery functionalities, enhanced by the included disk fix tools. While not suitable for everyone, DMDE is worth considering for specific scenarios.

Well.... for giggles, I tried the pro on my laptop's hard drive, and it's seeing everything I've forgotten I've ever deleted. Next couple of days, (or intent is), I'll try some of my old unrecognizable hard drives. Wish me luck, and I'll reply back with results... when I get that round to it I've been meaning to get. At least I bought the software. Cost is $107.XX counting the upgrades.

I tried a few. Disk Genuis i think is the best for PC. Because it's a full blown partitioner, Disk imager, Data recovery tool. Etc. it does pretty much anything you'd need to do with a Hard Drive. Disk Drill is also very good. I'm using Disk Drill right now on a drive who's partition table has become corrupted. 100% recovery success on that drive with Disk Drill. I like all the additional features of Disk Genius though.

Hi Andrew.
Windows started running chkdsk on my 8TB drive every time it restarted (updates etc). I bought a new 8TB drive, shutdown windows, plugged it in and rebooted.
Windows still shows the old drive - all the folders are present, and file names, but most of the files can't be opened - they are marked as corrupt.
I have tried all of the tools you recommended and quite some more - none of them claim to have found anything so far (0 files).
They all do say one thing along the lines of - "A device which does not exist was specified
" and Error 433.
I am wondering whether any of the DR tools out there can start with a device you can see in file manager, see usually be seen in disc management (not when some tools are scanning) and recover the data?
Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I accidentally deleted the sector headers of the data on the HDD from the cmd line on a Windows computer. I did not delete the files. However, I cannot access the data because the header information is gone. What would you recommend for this?
