How to Replace a RYOBI 18v and 40v Trimmer Head

Since I'm reel mowing the backyard, I need to be able to trim as close as I can to the lawn height of cut. I don't have the trimmer to purchase rotary scissors or the $$$, so I'm changing my 18v RYOBI's bump head to the serrated blade attachment. I've never done this before, so I figured I'd make a video about it... you're welcome!

Dude thank you! I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't thread new line through and couldn't see what was happening on the inside because there is zero information in the instruction book about taking the line head apart. I feel silly that it's literally just pushing the tabs in and pulling the plastic apart!

Turns out some old line was jammed up in there.

This is the only video I found helpful and ended my half an hour of extreme frustration. Thank you again for taking the time 🙂

I can’t find the hole you were talking about. I have a gas powered Ryobi extend it, can’t take the bottom part of the head off.

The beard rocks! I'm 67 and can't match it so I'm a little...no, not jealous. Call it admiration.

Thanks Chuck, I had a hard time locating info on the dual blade assembly. I have the Ryobi 40 Trimmer. It appears I don’t have to take off the entire head.

Good try. The one you showed is a 40v. My 18v trimmer looks different. Could you do one with the 18v guy ? Thank u

Losing my mind here. I have a newer 18 volt, looks like the head is different from what you are working on. I can't find the place to remove it.
Any ideas?

How did you tighten the "bottom bit" before completing the assembly of the serrated head?

Very useful thanks. If you make more videos try to put more light on the items, that will make things clearer.
