What's wrong with my mill/drill and improving it

I built this machine primarily as a milling machine last year. Its not quite stiff enough to be a good milling machine, but I love using it as a drill press with XY table. So making improvements to the mechanism for setting the drill height, as well as making a better rack and pinion plunge mechanism using a lantern gear

10 years of innovation and creating stuff. On top of repurposing and fixing other stuff. I've learned a lot watching you do all of this, so thank you for your contributions to the education and entertainment of the world.

I love seeing the Dead Internet Theory come to life in the comments in the first few minutes of these videos going live. Oh, I still love your stuff Matthias after all these years :)

I really loved seeing that lantern gear assembly come together. It's amazing, too, how often the answer to a problem comes after a good night's rest, like part of our brain just subconsciously stays fixated on it. I kid you not, it has been some 13 years since I graduated from college, and only just the other day did I suddenly arrive at a solution to a problem I had during my senior design project while I was describing it to my wife. I guess at least one brain cell was left to solve the problem on its own all these years.

Others have expressed admiration and respect for your work. I join them in their praise. You were the first, later to come were Jer Schmidt, Marius Hornberger, Pask, Kurtis and a host of others inventing and creating a variety of tools. You are all my heroes. Thank you,

That rack and pinion was beautiful. As always I appreciate the table saw safety as well😊

Seeing my man drop, "So I'm cutting out a lantern gear on my CNC" while his DIY CNC made of salvaged plywood and construction lumber works in the background has got me dying. You give Matthias a bucket of rusty bolts, an old bed frame, and a few laser pointers and he'll have an interferometer detecting gravity waves in time for the next video to drop. But it'll only have a precision able to detect super massive black hole mergers until he can get his kids to stop jumping on their beds and shaking the equipment.

This level of creativity and practical engineering is what I imagine people like DaVinci thought of a long time ago. Matthias is one of those people that you can just give a problem and a timeframe and they'll come up with a creative solution.

AGAIN! You blow my mind. I love how you design build. All with readily available materials. Thanks for all your great content. I've been using your gear generator program for years!
Keep it up. 😃

Hello, i am happy to see you are still creating content. Used to watch your videos like 10 years ago, making some projects, but then other things got higher priority. Cheers!

Your tutorial method of using faked flubs to explain the comparative merits of design choices, rather than just explaining those choices directly, is a very powerful teaching method in itself. The miniature model is fine too but those are relatively commonly used. Mr. Wandel is a very deep pool of intellect.

I was on the fence about getting the keyless chucks. Looks like I’m putting that earmarked cash into the direct drive sander fund.

Impressive work as always, Matthias.

So funny to see you use some of the tools you always joked you didn't need to improve on another tool you built almost as a joke. Very enjoyable!

Wow, that was neat watching you figure all that out. I would have never thought of making a rack and pinion like that. Great video, as always..

There's always something so satisfying about using a tool to upgrade the same tool!
