GCSE Sociology Revision - Social Class and Differentiation: Is Class still important? (Episode 15)
Показать описание
Here we go again! This latest episode on social stratification focuses purely on social class as a way of differentiating people. Class is a theme that you can’t get away from in Sociology as it cuts through so many issues and is the cause of so much inequality. What I am to do here is cover the key points students of GCSE Sociology (Eduqas) will need to know for their Paper 2 exam, through the lens of the key debate in the topic: Is class still important?
In this video, I cover the following things:
- Overview on social class – what it is; key issues; links to other content – 1:47 – 7:49
- Is social class still important? The debate – 07:50 – 09:51
- Is social class still important? Yes. The Marxist view – including Bourdieu – 09:52 – 18:50
- Is social class still important? No. The Functionalist and New Right view – 18:51 – 21:44
- Is social class still important? Maybe. The views of Goldthorpe & Lockwood and Fiona Devine – 21:45 – 25:27
- 10 key terms to know: Class, Income, Wealth, Life Chances, Marxism, Cultural Capital, Old Boys’ Network, False Class Consciousness, Affluent Workers, Meritocracy – 25:28 – 28:54
- A word on exams, with a 9 mark question and answer walkthrough – 28:55 – 35:27
- Recap and Outro – 35:28 – 38:05
The video is aimed at GCSE Sociology Eduqas students but will also be useful as a recap to those studying different exam boards, e.g. AQA Sociology and/or those studying at a higher level, particularly if you’re newer to the subject.
Stratification and Differentiation is a huge topic and will remain the focus for the next couple of videos, so keep an eye out for those coming soon…
