Ive been listening to this while making cinnamon rolls with my 2 yr and 1 yr old. stressful but lovely.

My husbands parents when they got older no longer celebrated halloween. instead they made it a day for a Harvest Festival, and a day to celebrate ancestors and their stories (normally highlighting Scottish since he's done 5 centuries worth of work finding, submitting, and doing in their work in the temple. Such joyful stories that id love to tell you sometime!)

I remembee the very first halloween that i had with their family. As someone that never liked horror or haunted houses i loved this more than i dreamed.

We listener to their old love stories, their adventures to america, even finding love during the revolutionary war! We played traditional Celtic Music and made homemade dessert and traditional stew.

I remember that when we had prayed at the beginning of the "Family Harvest Festival" that he asked Heavenly Father for our ancestors to come and celebrate with us. Even with just the 4 of us, his home never felt so full!

I could feel a love and joy that was nearly overwhelming.

I hope to carry on this tradition ( and while yes decorate for halloween but we have little kid pirate ship and grumpy octopus to signify adventure instead of something scary since our street is famous for giving whole candy bars and decorations) but highlight the Family Harvest Festival. Thank you for sharing such insights on this. I have felt for a long time that halloween and those things pertaining to it were never "lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy, " and shouldnt seek after those things.

I haven’t finished your video yet, but I had to pause it. I have watched the prophets talk a few times since conference, and just now what stood out to me profoundly was the prophet saying.. “now is the time for you AND FOR ME to prepare for tue second coming…” It made me wonder if the Savior will come during President Nelson’s time and he will get to be translated in the twinkling of an eye at the age of the tree!! A fun thought ❤

When you read the message about making sacrifices for holier things, I thought about my own life. After getting married, having children and living far from my home country, slowly I felt loosing interest in the things I had interest when younger, and increasing my interest to have more of the holier things in place of the old things. The common person would not understand because it was nothing bad I was leaving behind, and it just happened naturally over time, it was not a sacrifice, it was natural and spontaneous, you just change with time. I feel I want to get closer and closer to heavenly things, to celestial life. It feels like leaving the world behind and preparing for the millennium.
