Classics simply doesn't come more beautiful than the F-86 Sabre.

I read one of Chuck Yeager's books many years ago where he talked about having a Sabre squadron. He asked about the APU's and what would happen if they didn't have any? People were puzzled and asked, "Why wouldn't we have any of them???" Chuck explained about sabotage, being destroyed during warfare, natural disasters, etc. So he came up with the idea of "blow starting" a Sabre by placing a running Sabre in front of one that needed to be started. The exhaust from the running plane would get the engine in the other aircraft spinning enough to be started. They tried it and it worked. Of course, you had to have at least ONE APU to get the first plane started, but in an emergency situation the "blow starting" method worked perfectly.

Im 64 yrs old now. I remember as a kid in the mid 1960s during the spring and summer months seeing complete squadron flights of F-86 H aircraft doing low level formation flights over our farms. Griffith AFB was about 80 miles away. They had two Air Force Reserve Squadrons. They did their 2 wk training cycles . In July thru Sept sometimes you could see up to 24 to 36 F-86s flying in mass in finger four formation. It was a sight to see.

Buzz Aldrin was invited by my airline (a large UK airline with a pretty Union Jack on the tail) to come and do a talk about his life and the space race etc at our annual safety symposium, he came and spoke for an hour or more and before leaving opened up the floor for questions, at some point one of my colleagues asked “what’s your favourite aircraft” and before the question was fully out of his mouth Buzz said “F86 no question”. That’s good enough for me.

I feel so excited. The sight and sound of things that fly always do this to me. That is why I was a helicopter mechanic in the Army. I miss the smell of burning Jet fuel and Av gas. 😀

There is an F-86 in the park of my hometown. I was young when it was placed there. Every time I go to the park, I look at it. I have never seen one fly, now at least I have seen one taxi.

This and the F22 are the most beautiful jets!! Oh, I’m 71 if anyone wants to know. I was born February 2. That’s before the end of the Korean War.

This one is in the markings of the fighter wing that my father supported during the Korean War.

The Mustang, the Sabre, the Phantom. Arguably the 3 best looking aircraft the US ever made. Just my opinion of course.

I believe the F86 was the first fighter jet to have swept back wings.

The F-86 is a beautiful looking design. It's a design communist MiG-15 pilots loathed during the Korean war. 🤭

Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the 80's had a F86 that they used as a chase plane. Its long since retired.

I note the highjacking of the image of a First Nation Chief. How many First Nation people are military pilots?
