As a Samoan man who cooks all the time - i find it funny that ppl find it odd that we (men) are the ones responsible for the cooking lol but I guess that's the beauty with the different cultures of this world - everyone is different.

Samoan didn’t have indoor kitchens so the men were the one preparing stuff outside with climbing coconuts, prepare the pigs or chicken or whatever meat, and the process of getting the coconut milk you’ll need to have muscles and speed to do it if you have to feed a huge family. So men were more quicker to prepare meals, plus they usually cook their veges and meat under hot rocks and banana leaves with woods so it’s a very hot job. Samoan women are the ones looking after the kids and make sure the house is clean. But nowadays, most families in Samoa do own indoor kitchens so it’s 50/50 now. The veges and meat under hot rocks and leaves called “umu”, are mainly for Samoan men to prepare.. Samoan families never let their women do it. It’s their culture and they love it.

Samoan born and raised in the United States. Not all but most Samoan parents teach their kids at a young age were their place is in the household and how to do Feaus "Chores" every day as long as you live under your parents roof. I am grateful for these life lessons bc they have taught me how to be independent and be mature at a young age to know what to do when I have my family and household to take care of..

In Samoan culture, men do the cooking. Here’s why, sisters are consider the apple of her brother’s eye. So, he serve his sister. But not every family have brothers. Some like us, have more sisters than brothers. My brothers work the farm while we stay home, we do the cooking for them. Only time my brothers cook was Friday because no work just prepare things for Sabbath. Although men in Samoa do the cooking, that doesn’t mean us women don’t know how. We were taught to cook food because if you marry a Samoan guy and go live with his family, the men cooking won’t apply. You the sister married into that family will do the cooking 🤣
