I’m a nurse changing careers to dentistry. I was a paralegal prior to being a nurse, too. I am married with a kid lol. So I get the old thing. I’m 33 haha. It’s never too late. 💜 love the video! And thanks, Jake!!

It was super cool to watch this video to see others like me made a similar move as I did. I start Dental school as my second career at the age 37. Now on last year ( we’ll somehow delayed thanks to Covid-19) looking forward to finish it. I really enjoyed my time being at school with younger students and honestly spending time with them made me feel younger. I got my BSc in clinical psychology did not really like it I got my diploma in dental hygiene worked 10 years enjoyed it and fell in love with actual dentistry. So you guys out there it’s never too late to fallow your dreams and do what you really like. This is a life.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm in my late 20s and decided to go back to school for Dental Hygiene. I've been working so hard for the last year doing prerequisites and meeting other requirements but even then I feel like being a college student is for younger people and I'm going to be an old grandma in comparison to other students. His drive to push through and be in dental school is awesome. Do what makes you happy regardless of age. Never too late to work towards it. ❤

Amazing, this is the same scenario I'm facing. I'm turning 34 this year and working on my prereqs and applying for dental school this next cycle as a second career. Jake's story is encouraging for us non-traditional applicants and hope I can get accepted this year. I'm currently facing the issue of time management and hopefully can resolve this better before I start dental school. Good advice with working out, I couldn't agree more!

I’m older than Jake, yet I felt so inspired and encouraged because I had and still have moments of self-doubt! I’m applying this year to International Dental program. Hopefully I’ll get in! Thanks for sharing this amazing story!

I’m a respiratory practitioner. Im 31 and have been watching you before I even gotten into this field. I chose respiratory because I needed a career. Taking chem 2 after 6 years was a challenge and physics as well. I wish it only took me 18months to finish these science prerequisites it can be discouraging. Being 31 in a class with 19 definitely makes you feel some type of way because those kids are fresh out of high school. He gave me hope because I can’t believe he took bio I at 35!

This is so helpful! I am looking into this career but I have been so stressed since my background is a Bachelor’s in English. I am 25 and I felt too old. This has inspired me. Thank you !!🙏🏽💕

This is so inspirational! I’ve been a Dental assistant pretty much since out of high school and let time pass me by. I am now married with 2 kids and becoming a dentist has always been my career goal and now at 27 I am finally going to work on my prerequisites to eventually apply to dental school (loma linda being my #1 choice of school). Thanks for the encouraging advice!

I am married with kids, D3, 41 years old. Had to retake pre-Req’s as well. But it’s worth it and doable. Just stay focused, try your best and stick it out. We actually have several people in my class as well as a single mom who had her baby during 1st year and she was able stay on top of things.

His story really encouraged me!! I graduated college in 2014, and worked as a fashion designer for about 3 years. Last year, I married to my boyfriend who is from America. I am originally from South Korea, and I had to move to the States, and.. to the small town that I have never experienced in my entire life. Even though I am a foreigner here, I wanted to get my second career. Because I could not keep my previous career as a designer in this small town and found out dentistry is not just about science, it is Art plus Science! I started taking my prerequisites, and I got 4.0 last semester! Sometimes I feel I am too old to do this, and discouraged me so much... but I am applying for dental school next June! Wish me luck. 🤞🏼and Brittany, thank you so much for sharing this! ♥️

I completely understand. I have a career in dentistry in Mexico. I graduated in 2015 +1 year of GP + being a dentist from 2016 till now. However, I have been struggling because having a dental practice here is not the same to the USA. I have been thinking of switching to computer science, which could allow me to have jobs abroad ( Europe, North America ), but I have to really think about it. There are two things I like to do: surgery and programming. But I have to decide which could open me more doors in my current situation.

Hi Brittany, thank you for this video. I'm not in the dental field, but I decided to go back to school to earn a Master's degree full-time after being in corporate for several years because I want a career change. Being surrounded by undergrads makes me feel old! Haha. Kidding aside, the fact that other people like Jake who are wanting to change their careers are very admirable. It just shows it's never too late for anything :)
