You are so inspirational and very clever, I love living off the grid as well at home. My Dad and Mum inspire me to live more in nature and appreciate what we have, and live sustainably and eco-friendly. I love vegan and I even rested my make up, and clothing choices. I like Cotton On and learning to be more self sufficient.

I highly recommend a Norwex body cloth that cleans with only water. It has silver threads in it that kill bacteria as it drys, so your cloth is ready to use again. My husband loves it for a sponge bath. Also, we use Thai crystal deodorant spray or stone. We prefer the spray.

No shampoo for 3 years and my hair is doing great. the trick is to have short hair when you quit using it. it takes 1-3months to make your head skin get used to no shampoo and recover to natural state!

I like this idea and would like to try natural hygiene, but what if I don't live near the ocean? How does a bucket bath work and how is it preferable to a low flow shower?

I tell everyone this. I even asked my dentist, he said we don't really need toothpaste, it's just for flavor. You can also do oil pulling with the same coconut oil.

Hey man, thank you so much for these videos. I only found them today and am really inspired. Can you tell me more about how quitting alcohol was a game-changer for you? What exactly changed for you, physically and mentally?
And was it a difficult thing to do?

I gave up everything too! I only keep a little bit of soap in case I need it and wash everything else with sodium bicarbonate (good to clean clothes, the house and disinfect the toilet). As a vegan without any addictions (also no preserved drinks, and food apart from rice and pasta) I never smell but that happens after you have cleansed your body which can take a few years. Unfortunately, even coffee and tea are not good for us. Stick to water and eventually freshly made vegetable or fruit juice. Good luck on your journey home everyone!

I started to make my own toiletries with natural ingredients, such as body lotion and toothpaste. I still buy shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, but I've bought them all in bar form with no plastic packaging (either with paper or no packaging). Do you use sunscreen? What are your solutions to sun protections if you do or don't?

And, as a man, you don't bleed once a month ... just saying, it's a little easier for you. But still -- totally on point about natural products.

In this discussion of hygiene, I noticed you didn't mention anything about shaving, I only ask because I have a beard and was wondering about the maintenance of that living your life style ? thanks, love your channel and vids .

How do you use Dr. Bronner's exactly? My sister says it's really hard on her skin and that I should dilute it, like a tablespoon of Dr. Bronner's to a full sized shampoo bottle of water. Is that what you do, or does coconut oil negate that harshness?

I know I’m commenting a decade after this video was published. But I’ve been trying natural chewing gum made from tree sap for dental hygiene in between brushing.

I’m just wondering if you tried the same and if so, what your thoughts are.

its true. body odor is more from inside than outside. most people who ate more plant based raw foods have experienced far less body odor issues than people with a low fiber diet. the gut is the source of that body odor. if the bowels are not flushed out no matter what you put on the outside of your body it will still smell because of the decaying undigested food in the gut. it also sends toxins in the bloodstream making sweat and urine smell bad too. swimming in salt water is really good as salt by itself is anti microbial. in India where there is shortage of water its a common practice to take a bath from just a bucket of water with a teaspoon of salt added to it. an alternative to both toothpaste and tooth brush is to use Neem tree sticks. its called Datoon in India. people chew on one end of the stick to make it like a brush and clean their teeth. once done chop off the used part and the "toothbrush " is new again for the next use. just brushing with salt and gargling with salt water is the simplest yet very potent oral hygiene routine.

I gave up toothpaste years ago and only use baking soda now. A large bag of it will last me over a year.

hmmm, I too have cut down on a lot of so-called hygiene products. but I don't live somewhere where I can take a dip in the ocean everyday.

Are you concerned about all the pollution in the ocean especially in the San Diego area?
