geometry dash was infamous for not having an update in a long time, because the new update suffered from massive feature creep. 2.2 took 7 years to come out (the game is only 10 years old) so when the update came out people went crazy experimenting with every feature, which is why you got all these overstimulating levels

The reason "fire in the hole" sfx is in so many levels is when robtop was developing the ability to add sound effects to levels they posted a preview in the geometry dash discord that used the fire in the hole line

You forgot to explain why “Fire in the hole” is so used. It was first shown off in one of the 2.2 trailers to show off the sound effects feature, and people found it funny that THAT was what was shown off first. A lot of people must have independently used it for their lobotomy levels, causing rapid diffusion.
