Agree with you 100%. Passion will almost always dwindle after time. Grit however, is what gets us to the finish line. Thanks for your channel.

That was something that I've been thinking about recently . I like programming very much but I don't feel motivated sometimes nor passionate.
I came to the conclusion that maybe somewhere along the way I would feel passionate about it but what's more important than passion and motivation is consistency.
Great video as always Dorian!

powerful video!
there are a lot of arrogant programmers that they tell you that you have to be passionate about the subject because if you only do it for money you cannot be a good programmer but I think that's not true.
I like programming and it's entertaining for me but it's not my passion, It's difficult to find your true purpose in life but I'm confortable with programming.

This video didn't get nearly as many views as it deserves. I am learning to code right now for (probably) many of the same reasons that you did. I don't hate programming, but I don't love it enough to sit around and program for fun. I keep telling myself that, as I get better, I may enjoy it more. That being said, I am learning it because I think that it would allow me to build cool stuff and the money/benefits sound great. I look at programming as a tool. I like to do woodworking sometimes. The tools are cool, but I get excited about the things that I can build with those tools. Code is just another tool (IMO) that can be used to build cool stuff.

It's good to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't love to code just for the sake of coding.

Passion will almost dwindle as time goes by. But discipline to commit to do something is a rock solid foundation

Right on spot.
I am currently trying to go through the freecodecamp course with money as motivation, and just don't see a problem with it😁😁. But the only thing is, when you get bored it's a bit extra hard to do the routine.🏳️🏳️

Hey Dorian, I've been watching you for a while now and I just wanted to say thank you for this video.
Honestly my main motivation to learn to code was just so that I could actually get a skilled job that I could be proud of and would help me obtain my actual dream job. Either way this video really helped me thank you Dorian.

Thanks you for this! I just got back into teaching myself programing and my main motivation is get a better paying job and eventually develop a product or business. This 'passion' talk really gets to you.
Point of interest: most ppl who say they are passionate about their jobs got to that place after time spent doing it.
I think we put the caboose before the engine when we make passion the main factor.

This is mad spot on man. Not everything has to be a passion. If something like coding can get you in the rooms you want to be in then so be it. We’re all adults and live in a ever growing, and competitive economy. We shouldn’t shame people for chasing something that helps them get ahead in this tough system.

It's funny, your "perks" are things that everyone gets in Canada.

For me it was a lockdown so I figured why not, then I wanted to get into game development and then one day I just fell in love with the potential of coding and the neverending learning. Now, no if ands or buts, I will become a software developer.

5 years, 10 years, I really don't care which is a refreshing feeling. 29 years old and I did finally find my passion.

I am new to your channel. I've watched many of your videos, and you're really an inspiring and motivating person. Thanks a lot. Keep going, man and your content is very wonderful and meaningful. I believe that your channel will get over 1 million subscribers one day. All respect from Gaza.

You definitely don't need a passion for it. It's actually completely ridiculous to even say something like that. Programming is no different than any other occupation. You just have to be willing to put in the time. Passion can certainly help in putting in those hours, but it's not a necessity. I learned to code because I wanted a decent job, and many, many other programmers did the same thing.

It makes sense. Now, I can’t wait to get back to learning programming. Thank you for this awesome video!

Hey Dorian, I would love to get a video of your opinion on platform development through services like Shopify, Wordpress, etc. Aaron Jack made a video recently claiming that specializing in this type of web development is, as of 2021, the fastest way to get into the industry.

I agree with you, I think all one needs is a reason, a "WHY" for doing anything, in this case programming. Than programming is "What" one does that fulfills that reason. (an example for a reason could be- a better life for the family)

Spent almost my entire career as an artist and it wasnt pay well (at least in my case), then learned programming just for sake of filling a job vaccancy offered by a friend. I never look back. didnt even give an F about being an artist anymore. Maybe later. I bet anyone can foster his/her passion when the payroll is in check. DISCLAIMER: I do not defame artistic career. others can make lots of money from the craft they love creating. In my case, programming is the win-win
