Every time I do an interview with an artist I always want to know their Origin story. We all want to know that. If comic book movies are any indication of our culture, we are all curious why someone was inspired to become their best self. When I interviewed Ann Wilson of Heart, I wanted to know why she ended up singing and why here sister played the guitar. Because as You’ll find, Ann Wilson actually played the guitar before her sister. What were the moments that shaped here, Your’e going to find out next. Years after Heart formed They started to take over radio. It all started with their classic debut album Dreamboat Annie. Heart's first single from the album was "How Deep It Goes" , and it didn’t receive much attention when released in Canada by the small Mushroom label in 1975. The second single, "Magic Man" (backed with "How Deep It Goes"), was first picked up for radio play by a station in Montreal while the band was on tour playing small club dates, In America, Crazy on You was the first single followed quickly by Magic Man with would become Heart’s first top ten hit and started the legend that has endured up to now. Ann Wilson and original bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael Derosier tell the story of the classic. As we go into the interview, I do Want to thank our sponsor Zennie Eyewear. Wonderful interview! Rare talent and beauty. (Ann wasn't bad either)

I went to high school with Ann. I remember sitting in her living room 55 years ago (her mother had to be home for that to happen) listening to her and Nancy sing and play - and not just guitar - between the two of them they could play all kinds of instruments. I never told her, but when she would sing Cherish by The Association my heart would just ache. Her ability to put feeling and emotion into a song was a force to be reckoned with even back then. At that time, of course, we had no idea what was to come. But the first time I heard Heart on the radio I commented how good it sounded and a friend said, "Don't you know? That's Ann and Nancy." I was surprised, but it made sense - Ann wasn't famous when singing for us in her living room, and she didn't belt out the songs back then, but that voice was still that voice and you don't forget it once you've heard it. It was really good to see Ann again through this interview because the quiet, just plain good person I knew back then is still alive and well today.

She has aged so gracefully! Stunningly gorgeous, endlessly talented. A real treasure.

In my opinion Ann is the best female vocalist of all time. Her power across all frequencies is bonkers! My first Heart experience was in the 80’s, but I quickly went back to Dreamboat Annie and was captivated. Ann and Nancy, thank you so much! I would love to thank you in person one day, but that’s unlikely, so I hope you read this.

I'm a trained classical singer, but if I could sing like anyone, I'd pick Ann Wilson! Such a gift.

Magic Man was not only my introduction to Heart.
Magic Man was my introduction to rock n roll.
A little black kid who considered himself a die hard funkateer, into Parliament Funkadelic.
Magic Man swept me away and it carried me forward into my odyssey of all things Heart.
There was no turning back!

Holy hell, this woman is 70! And I swear she's never ever looked more beautiful....I am NOT kidding. If she's had work done, and I'm looking for signs, it was so well done that I can't really tell. She looks incredible...I'm 47 and I'm thinking my best days are behind me. My sister is 58 and looks way older than Ann does. I almost didn't watch this because it's painful to see singers you really love, age...and most don't age well. Ann broke that mold.

Ann Wilson was a game changer of rock what a precious treasure she truly is and always will be. She literally and legitimately took rock music away from the boys club and we've been saying thank you ever since. What a classy lady with tons of grace toward others.

I met her and her sister in the 80s. Got blessed and got back stage tickets from one of our local radio stations. Got a kiss from both on each cheek. I'll never forget it.

Ann Wilson was my first-ever crush in this world. I was maybe 9 or 10 and on the weekends my mother and I would stay up late together watching our rock shows. I remember it was either Don Kirshner or Midnight Special, but Heart came on and did "Barracuda" and I think "Crazy On You" in the same show and watching Ann singing with the wind blowing in her raven black hair and her hand on her hips. It's still one of the greatest memories of my childhood.

Love Heart. Maybe 4 bands/artists in rock history I own complete sets of their albums, and Heart is one of them

“Magic Man” by Heart is one of those songs that gave birth to the term CLASSIC ROCK!

Ann Wilson has the most powerful vocals of any woman in the business and is, hands down, my all-time favorite female vocalist! When she’s pushing her vocal limits (like she does in their song “Alone” for example), I get goosebumps from the thrill. She’s FANTASTIC! And her sister Nancy is not only a great performer on the guitar, but her gift for composition on that instrument is worldclass! And the other guitarists in Heart — the guys — have produced some of my all time favorite riffs!
Heart was a band meant to be. I’m so thankful the Wilson sisters followed thru on their desire and dream to make music. I can’t imagine the world of music without them or the TIMELESS CLASSICS they’ve given us.

Ann Wilson, more than any other artist has influenced me as a vocalist. Hands down she is the most phenomenal vocalist of the last several generations. I love lots of others too, but in my opinion all bow down to Ann.

The sisters filled a large void in the rock world. My teenage years wouldn't have been as good without them. They helped everyone in having good times.

Heart is one of those bands that have songs that don't know when to quit. The opening riff of "Barracuda" combined with the clean vocals made me an instant fan first time I heard it on the local radio. They were truly a ground breaking band at the time. To this day, they are a part of classic rock due to fact they helped form it.
