I'm a newbie UK pilot and was taught the BHPA before-takeoff checklist. In front of my instructor, on one particular flight, I declared "ready for launch". "Are you?", he said. "Might want to double check that". Go back 5-10 mins, on walking back up the hill, I'd unblucked my leg straps to walk easier and not reclipped and not followed the checklist before launch. I am so grateful for having made this mistake at the school because now, I don't mess with it and have completely put my complacency in the bin. Not a sport to mess around with "that'll do" mentality.

5 point check for me includes pulling on the risers, also checking the accelerators. I think the check starts to slack if you don't force yourself to be diligent. I hope you're fine.

Not only was your riser not properly in your carabiner, you lifted your wing without clipping in first. That's 2 deadly mistakes my friend.

No 5 point check. Left carabiner open, no accelerators, no airspace check.

The deadly mistake is opening your kite to spread and check lines at take off... which is on a cliff... which if a dust devil caught you and pulled you up... bye, bye! Test on the side in a safe place, then do your initial spread.... while clipped up near a cliff. I think there is a story out there where someone actually died doing this. Happy flying! Yes that was a dangerous one!😬 at our paragliding club it happened once that the riser got loose while winching, fortunately he could save himself with his reserve. And an other time someone stood ready to start, and somebody else noticed that the carabiner wasn’t closed. Always check the carabiners!

Worst mistake I ever made: Launching with speed wing on snow: About to take off, but something feels weird... No pressure on leg straps? Because no leg straps!!! 😲😲😲
Stall the right side immediately and abort the launch -> safe...
Only a few days before that, my flight teacher had told me to try my first speedwing starts on skis, for safety.
Had I done it on Skis like he advised, I might be dead... ☠😳😳😳
(Reason I did not follow his advice: Was at Choralpe, where the launch is very steep and I judged Skis are not needed and only add complication... Thank god I thought that way!!!)

Hi, I’m new here. Is the mistake not properly attaching the webbing to the left carabiner? (The audio does suggest it was corrected prior to take-off). I’m not a paraglider so please explain it to me like I’m 5-years old. Lol

I missed it but was watching at low rez so hard to see. When I connect I always visually, and by touch, check them and lesten fot the click. I also put my gloves on after!

It happened to me once... I only figured it out by watching the vidéo, the following day. . The camera was facing me, and I saw the finger of the carabiner behind the riser. I felt ashamed and scared afterwards.
