How to install a Window Insert - DIY Window in Door

Hey everyone! This is such a cool DIY upgrade for a fraction of the cost!

I took out the half moon window and added in this beautiful updated window insert. The project took me under 3 hours and I would rate it beginner-intermediate. The process behind it is simple but you do have to use a jigsaw and be confident in cutting through your door.

I would love to see someone do this to a door that had no window at all. Maybe to an old wood door. That would be stunning! For now I just updated this standard 6 panel door and I am loving it.

Youll need:
-Window Insert
-Measuring Tape
-Painters Tape
-Pencil
-Straight Edge
-Jigsaw
-Drill

I plan to paint this door and add a new handle. I think that will set it off so nicely!

I had no idea you could do this. Knowing that the jigsaw blade wouldn't cut all the way through, I probably would have drilled 4 small holes in each corner that went through the entire door and then lined up the tape using those as a marker on the other side (anything to avoid measuring and screwing up). Great project and it looks amazing.

I have what looks like the same door as yours. I have been measuring the door and comparing the size of inserts available 22 X 36 . That size doesn't seem to quite fit from the top to bottom. Did you order a custom size?
