As a 13yo who was just getting into horror, The Evil Dead was recommended to me by a friend who said it was “a classic that was campy and scary”. I accidentally watched the remake and was not prepared for how hardcore it was. 💀 Talk about baptism by fire.

I am still amazed Jane Levy didn’t become a big name after this movie. Her performance is second to none in horror as far as I’m concerned.

So, I saw this movie in theatres WHILE IN LABOUR! I left the movie theatre at 10 pm and my daughter was born at 3:30 am. I loved this movie!

Another thing I appreciate about this movie is that the first letters of the main character's names (David, Eric, Mia, Olivia, Natalie) spell DEMON.

The “Licking the knife” scene has been and always will be burned into me and my friends’ memories. They really put these characters through it with oppressing mean-spirited violence

This was such a good horror movie. I think about this one when I think about what is peak horror. It has everything. It is gruesome, gory, mysterious, believable yet not so much, and just a tiny bit campy.

Jane Levy was terrific in this, and it was obviously a hugely physically-demanding shoot for her. The practical effects were incredible, and incredibly hard to watch. Even though I’m not a gore hound, it is impossible not to find them impressive. Finally, character Eric is a jerk. Just sayin’—this whole evil debacle was entirely his stupid fault. There’s one in every friend group. :/

One of my favourite horror remakes. The moment were Eric finds a possessed Olivia in the bathroom is still one of the most genuinely terrifying horror movie moments that I've ever seen.

Evil Dead as an allegory for drug addiction works way too well.
Especially the extended ending, hinting that Nia might still be possessed, because even if you managed to overcome your addiction, you'll never be truly rid of it.

This remake and Evil Dead Rise are astounding follow-ups to the legacy trilogy. They're respectful whilst forging a new, insane path and I'm absolutely here for it.

I know a lot of people were taken aback by the more serious tone, but I personally think it works. The more grounded characters and atmosphere really adds to the brutal, uncomfortable nature the series always had. It's also a neat contrast to Ash vs Evil Dead, which has more of the insane, goofy stuff fans want to see.

Hands down my favourite ever horror remake. It did so much justice to the original whilst taking on a whole life of its own. I was lucky to see this in cinemas and a girl beside me started crying! That’s when I knew this was something special lol

The opening sequence alone is a 10/10. More tension and intensity in a just few minutes than many hollywood horror films can muster by their highest climax, and just so effective in setting a new tone for the remake

This movie was always meant to take place within the same universe. The plan was to have 1 more Mia movie as a sequel and then the third movie of the modern era would see Mia and Ash meeting up.

It was always the plan.

The uncut version is by far the best and was what was advertised in the red band trailers. I love these movies and this remake did a great job, now we have another story in the evil dead verse.
