PGXI Thanks,
It is true and you are right, the 4 gigs of ram will help to speed up
The 3.0 in the PC, Im glad you posted the comment because I am going to go over in the nest episode of what the 3.8 does vs. the 3.0, most people do not use a PC like I do and dont really need a 3.8 to run their programs.

@PrivatePanic

There is no correlation between clock speed (GHz) and RAM memory amount. The computer will truly speed up without any change of the clock speed. You will just feel your computer being faster with everything you do in your day to day activities. Faster boot-up and applications opening faster are some of the benefits of more RAM memory. You can never have too much RAM memory.

@antfarm69 That's sounds real nice to hear! I just upgraded our latest XPS 430 from it's original ati 3650hd 256 gig video card to a ati 3650hd 1 gig and what a giant improvement for a low level card! I want to get a 5450 right now but can't afford one, that's almost like having a computer in a computer right! I still have a problem with the new 430, it stall's out when editing 1080p sometimes because I'm still running it's Q8300 2.5GHz CPU with only 6 gigs of case memory in that one, so thanks

@maplekillaz the 5150 in this video was setup to edit 720p videos to upload to youtube in a low cost way, it is not a gaming PC! For most of the newer games you will need a quad core PC and I recommend one that can handle the Q9650 3.0GHz. CPU x4 or the i7 2.8GHz CPU x4 CPU by Intel with 8 gigs of ram for starters. I hope this helps!

@PrivatePanic Hello, you always want to make sure you have the right components to match a Dell PC and do research before attempting upgrades. it sounds like you do not have the right memory if it doesn't show up in the system or the memory is not operational? so make sure you double check your components for match!

@antfarm69 I did try the pentium D dual core 2.8GHz. out of my Dell XPS400 and then my pentium D 3.6GHz that was also in the 400 but, the PC would not boot up! now I have seen from time to time 5150's on eBay for sale with dual cores but its rare to see that? I guess you are lucky! I did spend a lot of time on it, all my newer PC's are Dell xps 430 quad cores with Q9650 3.0GHz CPU's /w 8 gigs of ram, the 5150 is use for testing videos only now.

@maplekillaz That sounds like the right CPU but, it must have SL7Z3 stamped on it!!! you must email the person selling it and find out if that code is on it before you buy it, or see if its in the add some ware? and the Bios haft to be on A00 for it to work for editing.

@TheScumfrog Hi, this video is for the upgrade on a dell 5150, the trouble you are describing could be any number of things? Try your virus scan, defrag and clean out cookies! You mite have picked up something on the web, there are Trojan things like the blue screen of death on many sites that a PC can pick up easily and cause your description, run more searches on you tube for your PC! And I hope this helps

@antfarm69 I think they mite have installed dual core motherboards near the end of the 5150 series model year but not sure? the XPS 400 was a little faster than the 5150 but, still could not handle 1080p even with the pentium D 3.6GHz CPU w/ 4 gigs of ram so I did change out the mother board to a 430 quad core, now the motherboard was a cake walk to install in the 400 case with a few cuts but came with some other problems.

@31pockets The 400 lower case cooling fan had a 4 pin plug and the 430 has a 5 pin so at start up it would bio up to F2 till I replaced with a 5 pin fan from eBay, the CD drive has a different ribbon cord & plug, so that was a newegg deal and the memory is DDR3 in the Dell XPS 430. The XPS 400 now plays 1080p smooth with a Q8300 CPU & 4 gigs of ram, I haven't put it in video yet because the on/off switch, firewire and usb port still hang out the front because I haven't had time to cut the metal.

@lucasnooker This 5150 CPU upgrade video is for a single core only, and can only edit to 720p HD smoothly, I use a Dell XPS 430 with a Q9650 CPU 3.0GHz x4 quad core running 6.4 gigs of ram to edit 1080p clips and find that works better at hotter levels.

Yes! It keeps the CPU from overheating and burning out.

Where do you get the CPU from. And what's the modal of mother board it fits in? Thanks

dylanreynolds

it's around 3.5gb that it will recognise and make available to the user. not 1.8.

@maplekillaz if the CPU is on eBay right now for sale and the seller is christ1688, the answer is yes and is the right one. you will also need 4 gigs of memory to help edit smooth on the PC.

@lucasnooker Depends on what your motherboard can handle. My Dell 4700 can't take anything higher than an intel P4 3.8ghz

BritaniaRuleAgain

@boomsledge the 2 core will not work, the 5150 takes a PC express video card and with the 3.8ghz you will need at least 4 gigs of ram to use it, I hope this helps.
