What's the science on keeping mask mandates going in California Prof G? Something like 90% of the population is vaccinated and our governor is attending footballs in a stadium, without his mask. Not saying your comment on Trump misinformation isn't true, it surely is, but democrats and science is not a thing right now either.

But what should be the compass for truth? Big corporations, governments and media? Don’t they have interest in shaping narrative for their own profit (money and power)?

He lost me at "Trump administration."

Conspiracy theorists are across all political spectrums, all religions and some even turn out to be right at times.

There is no monopoly on truth and if we force it we'll inevitably get fascism.

Let everyone speak and debate in the open, regardless of credentials or affiliations.

Reading about people grabbing multi-figures monthly as income in investments even in this crazy days in the market, any pointers on how to make substantial progress in earnings? Would be appreciated.... I'll be in the comments

What's making it worse is recently the conspiracy theories are coming true.

The problem is education. Public education in the united states is terrible, and it is not because of lack of budget. The fact is most public schools have terrible grades, (low test score on reading and math), while you can find better teachers in 3rd world countries who's tuiton cost $12000 per year (for a great education, you can be accepted at ivy league if you show the effort) while some states like New York spend $30, 000 per year per student and get not even to community college.

I agree, but there’s so many people with hidden interest in this country, I just don’t think it’s possible that we can get to common ground. Take pharmaceuticals, peer reviewed articles are reviewed without raw data, it’s the data that the pharmaceutical companies provide. Do you see the issue with that? So is the peer reviewed really peer reviewed?

When it comes to public health it isn’t about truth today in how we protect ourselves and the population, or trusting the professionals who have studied extensively the problems caused us by viruses - it comes down to there are fewer adults over the age of 30 who understand that wearing a mask isn’t that harsh of an ask.

But, in a society that has been allowed to define they’re own personal truth, even so far as deny the particular chromosomes dealt that differentiate male from female, what are we to expect? Absurdity will prevail.

I call it denialism or down right stupidy

I find it interesting when people go to the trouble to make entire YouTube videos to discredit something that they say is 'ridiculous' or 'stupid'. If I consider something is a 'conspiracy theory' (not that I do, since I'm open minded, but say that I did) then I just would dismiss it as self evidently stupid and go on my way. I wouldn't waste time trying to convince others that it's stupid. Also I would back up my debunking with some actual evidence or argument - which is completely absent in this video. In addition, you're kind of dissing 1/6 of the population (that's a LOT of people, many of which may have degrees or be very intelligent) by saying that they're stupid aren't you? Just sayin'.

hm I could be wrong but the sample size seems a little small for me to be confident that 1/6 represents the true population. ~8K adults surveyed out of ~200M

Could not disagree more. What yesterday was seen as “truth” could today be seen as a “lie” and the other way around. We have seen that with COVID over and over…

Getting your hand in having Spotify censor Rogan (and I'm 90% sure you didn't even listen to some of the episodes in question, which is the biggest problem here), that's how you're going to fix stupidity, prof. Well done. I've been listening to you since when you were a fresh voice of reason and didn't have a podcast with that vapid nymag woman. You've always been the dude who had a cool head on his shoulders and I still trust your judgement and forecasts. Just think again please which boat you picked. It's filled with people who can do much more harm than flat earthers

Well from the way I understand it it's not perfectly round, more of an egg shape depending on the gravitational pull from the Moon.

"this is what happens when you combine human stupidity with content".
I'd like to point out that although this does apply to other countries. It seems to me to be unfair to compare the prevalence of this in the US to the rest of the human race
