By 2011, Japanese anesthesiologist Yoshitaka Fujii had over 200 scientific papers to his name. But for more than a decade, his colleagues doubted his output. His data was too “nice.” Noted Science Zaddy Kyle Hill explains how simple statistics made Dr. Fujii the face of scientific misconduct.

*Thanks for watching!* Slightly different video today, hope it's interesting.

Re: today's sponsor. I usually just focus on the science, but unfortunately I know many of you have questions about today's sponsor. Just wanted to give you some further information, and asking you to give your Noted Science Zaddy the benefit of the doubt here. I look into stuff, and believe in net positives, especially regarding mental health.

It's now public information that no private information such as members' names or clinical data from therapy sessions was ever shared with advertisers, publishers, social media platforms, or any other similar third parties.

Since the settlement, BH has been certified by HITRUST, which is an industry-recognized gold standard for providing the highest level of information protection.

A little ironic that the video about scientific dishonesty is sponsored by Better Help, a company criticized for not vetting their counselors and passing off unqualified people as legitimate therapists.

I agree with getting therapy. Better help however has a sketchy past of selling your info to advertisers and flooding you with antidepressant ads

i adore the fact that 90% of the comments are criticizing kyle for the sponsor choice and pointing out how ironic it is considering the topic of this video

Uh… didn't BetterHelp _just_ have to pay a 7.8 million dollar settlement, because they sold their customers' private data?  Not a sponsor I'd have taken on…

A BetterHelp ad in a video about ethics and fraud is particularly ironic

Kyle, for a researcher, you did an awful job vetting your sponsor for this video man...like they're legitimately an awful company

Better help is not providing the legal definition of therapy. They provide coaching etc...;therefore they do not need to or fully do not protect your information like normal mental health or health records. They are also shady to the thterapists themselves about liability and coverage.

A previous employer of mine had a plan with Better Help and I got connected with three therapists in a row that wouldn’t talk to me about anything until I went to AA, despite being below the average drinks a week said to be alcoholic levels.

Speaking of fraud, let's segue to our sponsor - Better Help!

i wanna say it's ironic you are speaking on scientific misconduct, then accept a sponsorship from better help, who are embroiled in their own misconduct. 1: selling user information, 2:getting sued for doing so, 3: treating their therapists like trash; Better help is to it's therapists as Door dash is to it's dashers.

In the past, I've been shamed by colleagues because I tend to ask for their sources of information so I can read it myself and see if the info I have is wrong, or the paper they cited has insifficient evidence... my biggest concern right now is how much, even in the scientific world, we tend to be borderline religious about data that many, if not all, haven't even read, let alone analysed...

EDIT: These replies terrify me, not only because at a micro level, many are being negligent, but at a macro level, it explains why so many distrust scientist and STEM related fields...

as much as i love this channel. a better help sponsor...damn. thats a tough pill. a site promoting and having unqualified therapists to councel people who need actual help is not even just shady its scammy and exploitative. that should not be promoted. And that on a video about fake research papers, i guess fake help fits.

Appreciate your informative videos, Kyle. But please vet your sponsors better. BetterHelp is, infact, NOT better or helping a lot of people. Their services are absolute trash and they sell user data.

there better be a reeeaaal good reason to have betterhelp in a sponsorship.

This better be ignorance, or contractual obligations.

Betterhelp is one of them that's much like these papers. Sounds too good to be true because it is

Better Help is an incredibly sketchy and arguably harmful outfit that doesn't really seem to have a good track record of actually providing real qualified care. I'm kinda disappointed to see them on this channel.

A reminder that companies like Better Help DO NOT fall under the HIPPA patient data protection act. I expect a lot more from you Kyle.
